Green Giant arborvitaes or Leyland Cypress. Both can withstand a decent amount of abuse and neglect and grow a couple feet each year, the latter growing close to 4 ft per year. Plant them about 5 feet apart so that they have enough room to grow properly but if you really want immediate privacy you can plant them a bit closer. Don’t go too close or they’ll starve one another for sunlight and water and become dead in the middle

Privet is another good suggestion. Very dense growing and they do well in the northern mid-Atlantic. We had them in PA and were good.

Anything that grows fast needs to be pruned aggressively after the first 2 or 3 years. Is this acceptable?

Another vote for green giants, put them around the backside of our pool fence for privacy. They grow very quickly.

Sorry was gonna post some busy weekend: this is what we have at the moment. Its a bunch of random things with not much consistency. I like the laurel idea those will blend in with everything else I think.

My story= Got married young, bought a house after sandy on the south coast of long island for very cheap, did some work on it, and sold it for an enormous profit 2 years ago and put that into my forever house.

This is after about 2 years or so. I only have been in my house since July of 17' and this planting was done a decent amount of time after moving in. I want to say maybe the following spring?

When I planted them they were about 4-5 ft and now some of them are close to 12 ft.

In her retirement my mother became a Master Gardener. She volunteers at the county (Monmouth) and claims every county has a person who will provide free gardening advice. Who knew? I suggest this though because someone like my Mom definitely takes a ton of things into consideration when making a suggestion. What works in Illinois, or Ohio, or even at your neighbors place may not work in your application.
