Angry i8 price increased on order

I ordered my i8 in the UK on 4 August 2014. Delivery estimate was originally 2 March 2015, but is now w/c 23 March 2015.

BMW now tell me they are increasing the price of my car I checked the small print in the contract and it allows them to do this. They said I am welcome to cancel and they would refund my deposit. I will not be cancelling of course.

BMW knew the car would be delivered in Spring 2015 when I ordered it at the quoted price last year. But they are retrospectively applying a planned future price increase (March 2015) to my car now.

The dealer also said that if it were being built a single week earlier then I would have avoided the price increase.

The dealer blames BMW.

I was wondering whether anyone knows anything about this despicable and unfair practice? Any advice?

Whoa that sucks. The base price jumped 5000£ on the UK configuration website and they have no obligation to maintain a price they have no control over. The base price of a SLS jumped $8k between when I placed an order and when it was built, I had to take it on the chin.

Yes, very annoying, considering I had signed a contract and placed my deposit. A deal is a deal in my book, and BMW have broken it.

I was given the news a week ago, as I went to collect my new i3. I did tell them to forget about me buying another car from BMW!

Does the price increase come with any increased options included like the new key fob? If so, its worth it. The 2015s went up by around $900 but had the Comfort Access Key included which the 2014s did not, I believe.

Has there been any official literature or info on the US 2015s? I know someone said 900 extra but I havent seen a 2015 order/price guide.

I'm getting a 2015.. in about a week or so. Mine says US $136,500 & pure impulse at $10,800. I can confirm it has comfort access.
Total $147,300

Is that the new or old price?

The price now includes the headsup display and is in fact £3200. Very annoying. I had the same reaction as you. They basically force you to take up the pure impulse scheme. Poor form.

I placed my order last month and the dealer and i noticed a full $1,000 increase on the msrp as compared to a couple months ago. No details as to anything extra but ill find my order sheet later today and double check.

It now includes an option that I had already selected. Overall, still a price increase for me (and everyone else).

It's put me off buying another BMW on principle. Simply because "a deal is a deal" but not to BMW obviously.

Eric, are you saying you had to pay the extra £3200?! I just checked today and had it confirmed that I'm not going to be asked to pay more for mine, due 1st March.

Hasn't the HUD always been part of the standard spec?

Eta I'm guessing you mean the driving assistant & surround view.

If yours is due 1 March, then that is why you have avoided the increase. The price increase takes effect at some point in early-mid March. I don't know the exact date.

I was told that if my car were 1 week earlier, I would have been unaffected by it

Driving assistant and surround view, correct which was 1420 previously i think.

My current car i bought early from a friend who did not want it.

My 2nd one comes end of april. I ordered in august last year.

I will probably let go of the current one when my own one turn up.

I noticed the price change too when I moved from "test drive contemplating ordering" mode to actually parting with cash. As already noted the driver assist is now standard and included. But does anyone know about the Pure Impulse Design card?

The Pure impulse Design Package is no longer on the spec list, but you can spec a few of the components separately (I've ordered the callipers). Just a thought that maybe the Pure Impulse Card is now thrown in as standard as well? Not that I need nor want it, but trying to figure out if there's another reason for the price hike.

Pure Impulse was supposed to be a limited launch thing so it's probably gone for good. And the reason for the price increase is because they can.

Yes, and I can't even have the callipers Although now available, I was told that if I change my order, my build slot could be moved back by 1 week, 4 weeks or 4 months!
