My First Redneck Encounter with my I8

It happened so unexpected, I did even see it coming . . . .

The better half asked if I would take here to Wal-Mart to pick up some cat food. So I instantly responded; “let’s take 8” so we jump in the car, its Sunday around 11 am in the morning, as I pull in the parking lot of course I park way, way, out in what seemed like miles from the store. In around 10 minutes some redneck pulls his beat up truck up at an angle with his front fender just maybe 5 inches from mine and swings the door open and out climbs this fat ugly redneck with a filthy pony-tail braided down to his neck.

Evidently, he thought no one was in the car - Not using my better judgment - I jumped out of the car and asked him what the hell was wrong with him and asked the moron did he not see the other 50 open parking spots. It was clear that he was just being a prick. As he pretends not to hear me - I told him it was the luckiest day of his life he didn’t touch my car with that door.

Believe me – I was so pissed . . . . Watch out for these low-life’s they are everywhere – you have to watch your car every second its out of your garage.

Rednecks and morons

Hate to hear this, but we all know there are so many drooling morons out there who could care less about other's hard earned assets. I haven't had it yet with the i8, but have seen it many times with other cars.
At any Walmart, I suspect they are the rule, rather than the exception. We usually go elsewhere, where the shoppers and service personnel have all of their teeth, dress reasonably and can spell their own names correctly. Even though it costs a few bucks more.

My encounters with them have been on the road, where they make the "rev it up"/"do a burnout" hand motions then I pull away silently. Then they pass in a minute, mouth agape, looking at the car like its a dog that juste started talking.

You're a braver man than I. I will go almost anywhere and park the i8 or SLS Ina spot comfortably away from any cars or Ina spot they will intentionally have to get closer than necessary and most of the time I see people actively avoid parking next to them. They will start to pull in then stop and find another space when they see what they will park next to. That said, I would never take either of them to Wal-Mart. If there's anywhere the average customer has less respect for someone else's hard earned property, it's Wal-Mart.

Thanks for the reply - believe me I was parked way out there was not another car within 1000 feet of me and hundreds of open spots and that POS pulled within inches of me - That's the world we live in - where people fault others who busted their ass all their life to have something nice.

I knew when I read "Wal-Mart" it would turn out bad. Never go there. Even in tony areas of Southern California Wal-Mart tends to attract poor and disrespectful gomers.

Happened to me the other day with my Porsche twin turbo. I was showing the car to a friend when a man pulled up and parked an old truck next to me. We were watching him, so I figured he would be careful. Instead, he flung his door open and came within a whisker of denting my 150K Porsche. Then, he looked over and sneered at the both of us like oh well, that's my space. If my car door hits your car door I am legal and you can't do anything about it. I kept my mouth shut because who knows, he might say intentionally dent it later if he gets mad.

Does anybody know what the liability is on parking lot door dings.

So you don't like your cat feeding it cheap Walmart food and agree I always try and park away from others until an idiot will park next to me.

In hind-site i should have not said anything to him - you never know who you're talking to and most important my wife was with me - my bad!

I felt like getting a buggy while he was in the store and lay it across his hood!

In my crappy little town there isn't really anywhere "high end" to get anything except the Wal-mart. I run into these jerks all the time, one time I had run out of eggs, so I go there and park at the last possible space; when i got back, an impreza (no joke, it even said "v-tech" on the side!) had parked so dangerously close to my F10 that It was literally impossible for me to enter my vehicle without moving his. Pissed was an understatement! I had to wait over 20 minutes for him to get his shit and walk across the 500 mile parking lot.

And thats how I met my sisters boyfriend.

Ok kidding about that part, but THESE JERKS, you just gotta wonder why they would do such a thing!

At least it ended ok with no damage to the car, or you

Never been to a Wal-Mart, as we don't have them, but have seen footage from your Black Friday sales there.... eye opening

This kind of thing happens everywhere though. Some years ago I parked an open top Ferrari, locked but top off, in a Marina on the South coast (Brighton).

I returned from lunch to find a group of people around it, a man sitting in it, and his partner taking a photo.

Like you, I "lost it", probably more so than you. The crowd evaporated, and the man apologised profusely. He said that others had already been taking turns sitting in the drivers seat and taking pictures so he thought it was ok

It was the last time I left that car top down. No one did any damage though.

At times you have to ask yourself if its even worth owning one of these cars - you can't go anywhere - you can't park it anywhere - can't travel to dangerous to leave it parked outside a hotel - answer all the goofy questions - are we friggen nuts?

It's even worse if you're an introvert like me who loves cars. Other crazy cars I've owned were just on the right side of inconvenient when it came to the attention. It was out of the ordinary but tolerable. The i8 is way beyond that. Honestly, my decision to put it up for sale was not only the combination of good residuals and another car on order, but the attention as well. It's on the wrong side of obnoxious for me, bordering on dangerous. A few weeks back, a car in the lane next to me rear ended the car in front of them at a traffic light because they were staring at the i8.

Well, where I live (and drive and park) I've had very little attention. But that's the Malibu-Brentwood-Calabasas area. That suits me fine.

On the other hand, except for my meetup last weekend I've only seen one other i8, a couple of miles from my house. Exactly the same color and wheels. I kind of waved from inside my car.

Most people from Sheboygan think that if you make more than 75k a year you are automatically worse than Hitler, Bin Laden, and Satan combined.

I just live in a stupid town, I wonder if any other bimmerpost members are from Sheboygan?

I sat in my first one ever in LA over the weekend, it was one of the craziest things I've ever sat in. It looks a million times better in person than it does in pictures, the rear outline curves and wind tunnels made me drool so hard. And when I sat in it, jesus this thing had a lot of room!! A lot more than the outside appeared.

Would've not taken this thing any where near walmart sir, you are brave.. especially in the south, I used to live there. People think money just falls out of the sky and don't respect anyone else's hard work..

It's mostly jealousy, sprinkled with a dash of immaturity. It just amuses me how some people claim BMW drivers are pricks...

Red Necks and knuckle draggers

Ran across an imbecile, driving very erratically and unsafely the other day. He was a typical, overly tattooed, knuckle dragging, mouth-breathing meth-head, in a filthy old POS Explorer, with the whole drivers side already bashed in. We had numerous words over his asinine driving. I wasn't the only one who found a need to honk or swerve to avoid him. He then pulled alongside and stated what a crap-car the i8 was. He shut up when I said it cost quite a bit more then the trailer house he must be renting. I then left him in the dust.

They are out there and they, unfortunately breed like rabbits.

Impulse control, dude. It may be cathartic to give him a piece of your mind, but in the end, what's the point. You drive up your BP, risk the idiot road raging your car into the divider or traffic, and then what.

Just get his tags, call 911, report an erratic driver, find an opening and punch it. Easy day.
