If you can BASIC, you can program anything. It's just a bit different words, but the logic process remains.

Pretty well the same era as my first one... Commodore Vic 20. I also got a Sinclair Spectrum while docking in the UK.

I had a cousin in on the ground floor of Commodore. I had no idea what it was when I was a kid. He'd bring in these "keyboards" with all the shit exposed and use tweezers pull the chips out and replace them and let us place like moon lander and shit. I was a dumbass little kid - I had no idea, I just thought he was cool.

We was worth a pretty penny for a while, but held it too long until it crashed. He was a true believer. Still did pretty well for himself, but could have cashed out during the peak.

+1 for the VIC-20. It was my first, and I got the cassette recorder too. After the Commodore my uncle bought me an Apple IIe with 80-column card, a Hayes 300baud modem card, and dot matrix printer. I hosted a crappy text based BBS.

You know your old when you remember "Duane's Garage" BMW forum.
Trouble is, I don't remember the name of the earlier BMW BBS that Duane's Garage spun off from.

Anyone? It had Jim Conforti, the UUC guys before they started & were just hiding purchases from their wives....

How about Compuserve? That really takes me back. That was my first online service. After that it was AOL, I think.

Yeah. Q-Link, if I remember correctly, was a predecessor of AOL. Started on the east coast and migrated outwards from there. I remember getting a $150 service charge for all of the minutes I used when I was 15 or 16. It wasn't a good conversation with the parental units.

Are these people still on my lawn?!?!!

When 75% of the stuff at Radio Shack were discrete components...

Last time I went into one in 2010 looking for a Resistor, the clerk point me to a 4' x 6' panel at the far corner
