they don't want this to sell well. In 5-10 years when the world as a whole is ready ,they'll come out with a stunner that will have mass uptake.

I imagine it shouldn't look too far off from the reveal seeing as it was more pre-production than concept.

Agree, it does look very tasteful and modern, just wish they wouldn't have removed the HVAC controls and 8-presets, and they'd also quit it with the unintuitive gauge cluster design.

I will say, that blue cloth/suede is definitely giving me 80's vibes. Now I can't unsee it!

Agree, no need to reinvent the wheel. Leather will be optional. They likely want to appeal to the vegan crowd with the suede/cloth interior.

the vegan crowd probably make a lot of twitter noise but not the type to splurge cash on high end vehicles as it upsets their fragile internal ecosystems and chakras.

Sure, but I imagined something else like a drab yellow/brown carpet and vomit green sofas with mini curtains hanging off the bottom. I think this looks very modern and minimalistic. I guess if someone has something against blue suede that seems like a personal preference.

The flow and layout doesn't seem far fetched compared to other luxury vehicles so I think it's a bit weird to describe the interior as "horrendous". The steering wheel is a little weird, but I think it looks cool. As a BMW owner and like many others--I do like a little familiarity but something newer too. Would I buy the vehicle based off of this? Probably not, but am I open to it (and the design), yes.

They have their work cut out. My wife test drove the Audi e-tron, Jag I-Pace, Model Y and even a BMW X3, since we already have an X5 and she actually preferred the MY interior and exterior.

Now having both at home, I have to admit, the only thing missing in the MY is a HUD and they will eat the competition. The interior is rock solid (unlike the Model S of yore). There are no creaks -unlike my X5.

I think the BMW looks great from the back and it does have a little bit of the Lexus RX styling so could be focusing on the Chinese market. The grill is too big IMHO.
model y better than all those cars interior and exterior .
My friend has a 2016 model s and it's dire sounds like a rickety taxi inside. G05 x5 is a class act.

What car is your friend planning to get next? Ever wondered by Tesla resale values are so much higher than BMW? I'll definitely consider the iX as my next upgrade along with what is out there. However, based on my recent comparisons, a lot of the criticisms against Tesla's build quality have been addressed. The Model Y (long range) is an incredible all around vehicle. The build quality is at par with my X5 in every way possible. There is no denying that. The iX needs to be great. The Ford Mach-e is also shaping up to be a formidable competitor.

BMW's biggest competitive advantage IMHO is their fine tuned leasing program. If you want to lease, BMW makes it really easy.
he bought the model s for 76k 4 years ago and residual in 4 years was 38k. I would argue not much difference in residuals as a 76k bmw would be discounted to 60-65k and then offer a residual of 30k on a 2.9%apr in leasing.
Anyway to answer your question he is planning to buy out his model as he bought it as his toy as he is an IT guy and has hardly done any miles on it.
(ps in £ not in $ and tbh model y not scheduled to come to Britain till 2022).
BTW if the interior quality of a 76k model s is nowhere when compared to a g05 x5, its real leather fgs and my g05 doesn't have a single squeak or rattle and highway road noise is non existent.

Ok, your G05 is better than your friends Tesla S. Only fools buy Tesla's and you're too smart for that. Got it!

Here you can compare the depreciation (MS vs 5 series)

https://caredge.com/compare/deprecia...ies-vs-model-s

IMHO, the iX looks promising but it has to be great to succeed in this market. It will be interesting to see how the bold styling decision works out.

sorry What I meant is that once a model s owner sits in a G05 or vice versa depending on what floats your boat the choice can be easy but please do.
In any case I am the typical future IX customer as I own 2 X5's and in a few years would buy an EV SUV ,,(only bmw yes I'm sad that way) and would look forward to a neat looking muscular vehicle like an x5 with leather interior and great build quality that I could buy outright and own for a few years. Vegan interior and wonky steering and non traditional lines don't appeal to me. The depreciation curves are an estimate and we all know BMW's depreciate but Don't we love them!

Agree, I am no fan of the name either, but I have to say from a marketing perspective it will likely only work in their favor. Sadly dilution of a brand is very common these days.

I do agree that the colors give an 80's vibe to it but what were they thinking when they designed the steering wheel?
