Girls love the doors. My gf told me she'll be so sad when I have to get rid of i8. It's also a very smooth and quiet car which appeals to women I've found. It's funny that guys care so much about sound while girls dislike loud cars. And cars that crackle and pop girls especially dislike.

Can't wait to try! Always see this car as a bit "fragile" compared to the GTR , worry about damage— I think I'm wrong....

I tried it but failed miserably. Just seems like I am dragging the car along with the brakes on. Scared me too much to try again

I tested 0-100 kph and 0-60 mph (and 100-200 kph) in my i8 a year ago with RL performance box and dbscanner correction tool.
It is very important to notice the "famous" 1-foot-rollout (-> US / NHRA spec of drag times) , it cuts 0.2 - 0.3 secs from your zero to whatever run. I easily ran 0-60 mph in 3.8 secs with this option. Doing without LC adds 0.2 secs. it's not so simple to fullfil all conditions to have LC active. and there is no warning or readiness signal if you try a LC with throttle and brake at once

Launch control is limited to 100 times in the vehicle to avoid premature wear. Those of you using it frequently might want to consider that. Also if buying a used one ask the dealer to tell you how many times launch control was used. They can read that out for you.

Personally not used launce control at all myself yet, must give it a go sometime...

Page 49 in the i8 Powertrain training manual:

Launch Control
Launch control enables optimal acceleration when driving off on a smooth roadway. Forced upshifts are also performed without a reduction of the engine torque. This enables additional acceleration during the gearshifts.
To avoid premature component wear, launch control is limited to 100 times. The number of starts already performed with launch control can be read from the DME with help of the ISTA BMW diagnosis system.

Yes, it damages the i8. Same as it does in a Tesla, albeit for different reasons (gearbox vs battery and cables).

I've done launch mode lots and lots of time, but never once in my own i8. Only ever in demo i8 cars. It is pretty brutal on the car.

Works every time when you get the hang of it.


btw in some cars there is no limit to how often you use launch control (e.g. any McLaren, Ferrari 488 and newer, some Porsches).
