It was a good event this year. I didn't go last year due to covid just starting (and they were driving 2GC's which I don't care for), but this year the instructors weren't in the vehicle so we got full control for three laps. The test drive fleet was a little boring though aside from the two V8 8ers, they definitely were trying to get people interested in the PHEV's this year.
That's what I expected after seeing a post earlier from someone who went to the Boston UDE … Probably why I did not try hard to go. Are they still giving out $1K credit voucher towards a new car?
Yep, $1,000 towards any new BMW lease or purchase.
Is their an expiration date for the $1000 credit?

Do you know if you can use it towards a pre-order of the i4?
Here's the fine print. Depending on when the i4 comes to dealers it may be possible but I'm not sure.

Couldn't get much since the car was locked. Its pretty much a G20 with tacked on Mercedes Screens, less buttons, and tacky blue accents. Here's a photo of the iX screen, pretty much the only big difference in the i4 and G20 interior.
I'm sure it looks a bit better when sitting in the front seat, but from outside looking in, that looks absolutely terrible. Can't get a more "tacked on" look than that!

Peak Bangle wasn't much better. Dame Edna 5er, Pudgy Butt 7er, Goofy 6er, saggy sided Z4, they all hit pretty close together and many people thought it was as bad as it could get. They didn't count on the current trend, apparently.

Agree, Bangle was a total shame, but Van Hooydonck was his pupil already back then. Grrrrr...

"current trend", brace yourself for what's coming next then. Things can go further South, a lot...

And all this is just a few people ruining the entire company, hundreds of top ranked engineers building splendid cars are drawn into the abyss by Adrian and Dukec!!

All those models sold better than their predecessors (except the Z4), and all of those designs were replaced by more classical BMW styles notwithstanding. BMW never liked the press criticism of the Bangle designs, although they not only sold extremely well but still are imitated by most manufacturers - the Bangle-butt is everywhere to stay after 20 years.

What is different this time in BMW design is that all those great BMW designers of 20 years ago are now working for non-premium brands, while BMW new designers are just trying to come up with convoluted laziness, caricature interpretations of classic BMW styles, and imitations of other designers work, IMO.

Yeah, the chase for sales over actual dynamics got us the universally crap F series cars. Sales are good, but shouldn't be the ultimate goal. Buyer retention and resale should be considered too. I say this as someone with no current BMW's.

I have the impression you laud the work of Bangle here. I invite you to look at the line-up: E23/32/38 and absorb the evolution and ravissant style evolution. Try to understand how it positions against the MB S-class as a big limousine car for drivers and not solely for passengers. Then Bangle came in with the E65 and it aborted the entire line of 7-series and its virtues and it lost its sense of purpose entirely.

Bangle was a disaster, just like Van hooydonk and Dukec are to the brand now. BMW could have been a firm bigger than MB or VW or Toyota by now, when they would not recurrently mess up like they're demonstrating again now.

Looking at the side profile of my F30 as a compare, I think the handles are at the same height, but the doors are taller and the windows are shorter. That's why the handles look so out of place. Maybe?
Haha it's the only thing I can focus on when I see the side profile! They don't fall on the upper or lower belt line so they stand out so much more. Not that I like flush pop out door handles like that found on a Tesla, but the GC would benefit from them...at least the side would be very sleek (no mention of the grill or strange rear bumper).

Big discounts after the 1st movers take delivery after being suckers and putting a deposit down for this epic design failure.

For me, only a test drive of i4 will create enough data points for a lease / no lease decision.

Small Comparison

Did some small comparisons to the petrol version of the gran coupé din't expect much difference but there are some minor design changes between the i4 m50 and the m440i.

Front view, what i noticed here on the i4 the grill is a bit different compared to the 440i and also for some reason one has "tinted" front lights and the other one don't maybe because the i4 m50 is specced with shadow line while the other one is cerium grey or whatever they call that.

Front side view not much difference there both specced with the 20 optional wheel while the i4 seems to have a bit of a flare going on at the back wheels the regular one don't but that might change later on for production.

Side view seems about the same for both models except for as mention previously the small flare at the back wheel arches.

Back view both seems about the same except it looks like the i4 has some really wide wheels compared to the 440 otherwise pretty much the same.

Thanks for the pics! Looks good!
Do you have some more pics?

Is this an official BMW event or from a local dealer?
I haven't seen a comparable event in Germany so far.
Really want so see an i4 in real life before ordering one.

They released the i4 & iX at this event organised by Juma BMW, a dealer from Leuven & Mechelen.
These are the only pictures I have. I didn't took pictures of the iX because it's just an ugly car

Yeah, the i4 in your pics has got shadowline headlights and extended shadowline specced, both are options.

So differences are really just front grille and back bumper..

Ich! That's yuck, not "I" in German. The view from the rear is bland, and that faux grille?! WTF? The "I'm an electric car" accents (blue hockey stick, weird wheels and blue accents around what would be exhaust openings in the rear, etc.) look ridiculous. And don't get me started on the interior. They had an opportunity to do something really forward looking, but blew it. Way too traditional on the inside. It's a BMW, so it'll perform better than it looks, but jeez.

..and it will be well-built, and I have a great dealer Service Advisor, so a generic-looking BMW with some weird trim (that can be ordered differently) could be ok as my first EV. More disappointed that there is no frunk...something useful. Haven't ruled out Genesis EVs on the way yet. But, any of these alternatives would come before anything from Tesla, which I would never consider due to quality.

Not sure how I could love THE 4 so much yet loathe the look on this so much

I'd much rather have a 328i GT

For those that have seen the i4 in person, is it visibly lower and wider than the G20? I am assuming the 4 series GC will have the same dimensions.

the F36 and F30 height difference (about 1.5 inches or more) is obvious and one of the reasons why I love the F36 so much.

the i4 looks a lot taller in pictures than the F36.

Its taller than the F36, the first thing I noticed was how high the rear end was and how much less "coupe-like" it is compared to the F36. I would have to see them side by side to be sure, but this looks more like a regular sedan than a "gran coupe." Both the G20 and i4 look visually heavier than their predecessors due to the overall design language which uses softer creases and bodylines.
