I appreciate that, yes, all are OK. The car was parked and was hit by a (presumably) drunk hit-and-run driver, hard enough to bend the B pillar, which is what resulted in the totaling.

I'm very much looking forward to taking the i4 on longer trips. I'm honestly not bothered by not being able to charge at home, given the availability of chargers around me.

Glad to hear that if some damage had to happen, it at least happened while none of you were in the car. Certainly frame damage that would cost too much to fix.

Hoping you'll all be able to take that trip soon. Enjoy your new car!

These graphs seem to show that when speed is 20mph, TM3LR(fit curve?) can go 500+ miles.

Is this verified in real life driving?

These curves may be theoretical, but I believe if one had the patience he or she could actually prove it. Can you imagine going for 500 miles at 20 mph?! I will say the car gets true range at about 50mph for sure.

That may mean 20mph city driving has minimal air drag and can hit 500 miles. If true that means M3LR can do 6+ miles/kWh in the city, maybe M3LR owners can confirm that.

If it's an average of 20 mph the regen braking would definitely recoup the energy used to go 40 mph

I do wonder if i4 eDrive40/M50 can do the same 20-40mph city driving for 6+ miles/kWh, or 500+ miles range. If that is doable it will be very cool.

Here was the time I almost didn't make it to the supercharger. Went 65 mph for this period of time (11 miles) and drafted a truck to get the 191 wh/mi (almost 5 mi / kWh). I made it with 4 miles of range left.

That IS pretty funny, as you are obviously missing the connection between your gas-ICE and the climate change causing the issue in the first place. Except we won't be laughing much longer..

As for gas stations nearby, you would be surprised how few gas stations are in cities anymore, as the price of real estate has gone nuts. The closest one to me is actually across the bridge in New Jersey.
I do hope you have the experience you are anticipating, but it all sounds like best-case scenario. I think I'd rather be at my house while the car is charging than at some station ~5 mi away waiting around every time I charge.

THIS is the perfect product for you, if you park anywhere near your electric meter:

I'm sure we'll all learn a lot once we get our cars.

That meter adapter is SMART. It won't fix everyone's issues but it still a great idea for some.

To better clarify my post, the A/C does work during charging - as it should - but they had the wrong impression from first session and I was trying to get new account setup for the EVgo when they stepped out of car. I was focused with task at hand and if they wanted to get out, that was their decision. They learned the uncomfortable way I guess but luckily only a few minutes. But yes overall it was not smooth, as you read, and I had somewhat braced myself for unexpected hiccups more than they did.

Lol. Use the gas while we still have it - I will not be bullied by the elite who fly around in private jets and guzzle fuel in their yachts

Yes this first time use of the non-Tesla charging network was a PITA and I can understand your view of it. But don't let that completely dissuade you from being open to the EV option some day. I thought the idea of EVs was cool but being someone who grew up interested in cars (like most on these forums) I didn't think it was something I would actually buy/appreciate until I spent some time in a Tesla for a full weekend ... so I bought one as a DD. And now moved into a BMW EV. At this point they may not be for everyone or every situation (i.e. where you live, commute, charging options) but can be a great option for a large % of population. My first experience described should be the low point and I learned and can plan better moving forward, although I primarily charge at home and will rarely charge externally.

Great discussion here; my main point to share with this thread was the real life range => 300 miles which was my my requirement that I verified

The range is impacted a lot if you're running the A/C though. I'd like to see a chart of the range in such cases.
Not really. Heat yes. AC not a huge deal unless it's 110 degrees

The few times I've driven a Model 3 LR it impacted range a lot. Outside Temp was around 100F and I was going 70. My range would've been maybe 200 miles at best with a fan speed setting of 5-6 and the air recirculating.
Ok 100. Haha. I had one for 14 months and using heat saps the battery like crazy in the cold weather plus the battery pack itself can't get too cold so it uses energy keeping itself warm. I don't understand why people own these in places like Canada. On the flip side if your commute is short you can keep the car nice and warm when you leave work or before you leave the house. Anyway I agree in very hot weather it takes some range for sure. I think OP point was at normal temps and what not he got awesome range. At normal temps he crushed my Tesla.
Yeah, I still think it's not great when you actually need to use more things on a trip than simply forward power ie driving. Running the AC in my ICE car doesn't terrible hinder range at all. I think EV's have a long way to go before it's comparable.
