I have a 2019 i8 Roadster and have the opportunity to trade it for a Taycan 4S. Would love the thoughts of those who have driven or owned both. Do it or don’t, and why or why not? Will I regret it? The main thing that’s driving my consideration of the trade is my factory warranty on the i8 is expiring in a few months and the Taycan is CPO with the warranty going until August 2027. Plus the all electric seems attractive. Thanks.

For $5k you can extend the factory warranty up to 7 years or 75k miles….I think it's worth it

I sold my Tesla S P100d after 6 months in 2021 for my I8. The charging network just isnt there for trips. When you do go on trips your route has to follow the network not quickest route. All the hype 20-80% in 15 min on level 3 i saw that only twice in hindreds of charging sessions. Overall 600 miles takes average 2 extra hours (counting charging) compared to the i8 or my x3. Made 900 mile trip an 1100 mile trip because had to follow charging route in rural area. There were too many caveats and excuses that hybrids or petrol dont have. Ended up altering my travel paterns so much it wasnt worth the bother. The i8 has enough range for most daily trips... and poof gas up for travel. Its magical how much easier travel is when I went back to regular trips vs all the excuses i made while i owned the tesla. Dont get me wrong in 5 years i plan on trying EV again perhaps a rental if its a thing. But unless there is a huge improvement to charging and network. I bet some other technology will come along and replace BEV. One that doesnt have so many quirks and caveats.

I owned a 2020 Porsche Taycan 4S last year. It was a very comfortable, solid car but just did not have the style of the i8. I ended up trading it for a new 2022 Audi e-tron GT three months later which was also a very nice car but again not as unique as the i8. I kept that for even less time when I ran across a low mileage CPO i8 roadster in a color combination that I liked and so I traded again. Now, ten months later I am still very happy with the BMW and am glad I made the switch. I do wish though that it was all electric as most of my driving is local and I rarely use the gas engine. The Taycan is a great car with typical German build quality but is just not very exciting to look at!
