It sounds similar to the Taycan's Electronic Sports Sound. Which, natch, is a $500 option. My first drive of a Taycan convinced me it was cool...for about 3 minutes. After that it annoyed the ever loving crap out of me and I turned it off.

This coming from someone who drives an EV every day.

Then again, I have felt the same way about the active sound in the F80, as well as the Soundaktor in my GTi. I guess I just don't like artificial sound, even in the absence of engine noise.

I'm not crazy about the Hans Zimmer fake sound. Configurable/opensource soundtracks might be fun, but still a gimmick with a shelf life. Like you, the most important option for me would be "off".

Yea... the fake sound is horrifying and un-BMW. Don't know what they are thinking with that fake engine sound.

I agree with some of the more astute posts about the i4 lacking in tech. It's a massive disappointment especially at its price point. And BMW has yet to release its nickel and dime pricing for USA. If Canada is any reference, it's going to be an overpriced EV with yesterday's tech.

The i4/iX also uses cameras but has additional Lidar/Radar front facing for object detection. It's also Level 2. BMW has HUD, adaptive regeneration modes, adaptive suspension, driver awareness, Android/iPhone integration, etc.

BMW has embedded ABS and DSC directly into the electric motors.

Anyway, BMW has plenty of new tech in the car.

The i3 / i8 tech i was referring to was the massive investment in the carbon body structures that they touted as the next coming. Body tech, not infotainment tech. Doesn't seem to have made much of an impact on the rest of the range. Let's hope the iX is the re-start of this line of design ethos.
I suspect the next EV in the 3/4 family will see that tech.

The 5/7 already have it. It's called "Carbon Core".
If you open the door of a new 7 you see the small logo. If you go look in the trunk, under the package shelf you can see the carbon weave in the carbon/plastic.

I sent a PM to BMWUSA on FB, apparently the US Build and Price will be up in November for both the i4 and iX.

I was told by my dealer that I'll get my order sheet and information on Nov. 18.

Tell that to Rimac/Bugatti.

It's a shame, but BMW divested from SGL Carbon and I guess carbon core in non-luxury vehicles is out of the question.

They lost money on every i3 they produced due to the expensive carbon structure so they went back to their safe space with the i4. Honestly, I can't blame them even though it means it is quite a bit heavier than it could be but on the other hand, it is competitively priced - if it had the i3 carbon core, it would be just way too expensive (even more so now that they don't own the tech anymore) I'm afraid.

It was a partial divest.

https://www.sglcarbon.com/en/company...rbon-fibers-1/

"BMW Group has entered into an agreement with SGL Group to continue to work together on future projects involving the use of carbon.

The existing supply agreements for the continued procurement of carbon products from SGL ACF for the BMW i3, the BMW i8, and the BMW 7 series into the next decade are unaffected by the transaction. Likewise, BMW Group's CFRP-stacks production unit in Wackersdorf will not be affected. Furthermore, the transaction will not impact BMW AG's 18.3% shareholding in SGL Carbon SE. This equity investment is not up for disposal."

So you are partially correct but BMW is still heavily invested in SGL. The 49% initial investment in SGL ACF is what went away.

iX has a lot of Carbon fiber; just like the i3! I was amazed how much the 2022 iX has. BMW has not abandoned carbon fiber tech, they invested about a billion dollars!

Yep, he missed the point completely. Opinions are ok, everyone has one, but maybe try to understand something before writing about it? There is a word for people that have opinions on things they don't understand.

Also, I4 doesn't feel heavy on the public road, it is very agile and responsive, the car hides its weight well.
