i4 M50 Horse Power Limiting (Valet Mode)

Okay, after watching the drift video, I have a question.

How many people would like a valet or teen mode to limit speed/horse power?

I don't have young kids anymore, but I would be in favor of a valet mode. Too many stories of these valet yahoos going on joy rides and abusing high end cars

Out of curiosity do you know for a fact that it doesn’t include such a mode?

I read the manual for the i4 that someone posted and it had no mention of a valet mode. My F80 M3 did not have a valet mode. I don't think that it is a thing for BMW's. Obviously, YMMV as I have not driven every BMW out there.

If they're really serious about OTA updates, this can be easily pushed to the car as a feature in the future. Would definitely like a valet mode.

Seems odd.

Many powerful cars (Hellcats, high-power Porsches and Audis, Teslas, etc.) include this feature.

On BMW with Id7 that has bmw digital key support, one key share an access to a car and also limit max speed/power and certain functions.

There is a parking mode that blocks radio and other stuff.

That's encouraging.
I hadn't seen anything about a speed limit mode or valet mode.

I don't like valet parking.

I had a "Ferris Bullet" valet experience.......
I heard the valet coming down the street and around the corner in my car. I was not pleased.

I just tried to share a digital key for my x5 g05 using “restricted mode”. It only mentioned that it is possible to limit top speed and other functions and refers to a manual, but there is nothing in manual about that and I cannot find any ways to actually setup the restrictions. Looks like a dummy function

Maybe, there are some predefined settings one cannot change? Idk -

I got a digital.copy of the manual and according to page 99 in the manual there is a "parking service" or valet mode.

The mode limits the volume, DSC cannot be disabled and some other things.

It would be nice if speed could be limited to say 35.or 40 mph.

No clue. My most recent vehicle is a 2013 X5.

I say so because my current X5 g05 has this mode. I’ve never tried to use that though. But I can try if you want

Tried that thing today - it switched to a special guest profile, the whole idrive was blocked - no radio, no settings, nothing. Just a big window stating the car in the parking mode. The only driving limitation I found was that I couldn’t disable dsc. All the driving options (sport, electric, hybrid) were available. I also didn’t notice any power and speed restrictions.

That's what I was afraid of.
I noted that DSC could not be disabled from the manual.

It would be nice if it limited speed to say 40mph or something programmed.

At least, it could disallow to use sport… the entire feature is about privacy of your information in the idrive

I tried once again. Data - X5 45e model year 2021 with 394hp. I shared a digital key with my wife’s iPhone and chooses restricted access.

then I went to my car leaving my physical key at home and used her iPhone to open the car and start it. The car started with my profile logged in, but there was a small lock icon shown on the instrument cluster (see the photo). This lock was only shown when the car was either in hybrid or in electric mode.

Then I decided to have a ride and I couldn’t get more than 180hp out of 394. The car indeed limits available power. In sport mode, when the instrument cluster shows rpm, I saw max 3000 rpm.

Revisiting this old thread.

On my i4 M50 it does have a valet parking mode that I enabled before I dropped off my car at the ceramic coating installer shop.

No clue though on whether it actually limits the top speed or power.

I guess once I get back my car I can try it out for myself. At any rate I am glad it includes a valet mode. Once enabled it says prominently on the screen that the car is in this mode.
