Interesting comparison with e40, good to see tests with it also.

Tx to share this.

I was sceptical when I understood that the i4 doesn't use a bespoke BEV chassis. But when you consider the result, I suspect the vehicle dynamics departement has done some weekend work. Again, the overal drivers engagement bests its competition (not the Taycan, which I'am happy to accept).

“ This car's (Polestar’s) design is a breath of fresh air. And maybe its buyers won't care that the dynamics don't measure up to the best of what the establishment can do. Which is the i4. In range and efficiency the i4 is an excellent electric vehicle This car's design is a breath of fresh air. As a driver's car it's the best EV you can get for anywhere near this money.”

It is good to see i4's true capabilities are getting thoroughly evaluated and compared to competition. Given Tesla's recent price hikes plus unstable handling curves/high speed, the i4 definitely appears to be a good alternative.

Polestar design is ugly, looks like a previous model of the Kia Forte...but anyway it's just a Volvo with an electric engine and very expensive MRSP...

Although i4 is undoubtedly a transitional vehicle, it leaves Polestar in the rear view mirror because i4 had been designed to be driven while Polestar is merely a transportation method.

Completely disagree. I've driven both and the Polestar is a great car to drive. Not quite as quick as the i4, but it doesn't nose up on launch as the i4 does. For me, it loses out on a few other things. No HUD, finish not quite where BMW is but it's better that the Volvo XC40 which I've also driven.

Nailed it!

It was a smart move by Volvo to get into the leccy scene relatively early to create their 'Tesla' but just like their ICE cars they will find themselves behind their German counterparts once they find their electric feet.

Polestar has proportions of a car drawn by a child. May be on purpose, but the three box design is too pronounced to me visually to like it (I prefer the long hood, shorter trunk visually, which goes all the way back to the 1910s-onwards how cars were made ever since they ditched the horse).

I also get it that EV infrastructure lends itself to a very different design, such as super short overhangs at the front, and overall wheels pushed out to ends. The classic car design on EV platform has issues looking nice. We haven't evolved there from design angle as designers adopt ICE designs too much, and wont in next decade I bet. So this compromise is hard to swallow for us accustomed to smth that is visually refined over 100 years.

The huge gap (both cars have) fits better in SUV-styled Polestar than coupe-styled i4.

Are the e-cars raised to protect the batteries?

agreed... it's partly due to the spec of that particular i4, but the Polestar has been out a bit longer and the i4 just looks dated sitting next to it.

My wife and oldest son say the Polestar looks like it doesn't know what it wants to be. They say the design is confusing. Is it a car or crossover?

They think it fails at both.
