iX vs i4
have a I 4 m 50 on order .
it appears none will be available to drive for at least 2-3 months yet. I have tried to get a feel by driving a 440 grand coupe which I liked in most aspects apart from ride . ix3 was ok but very average interior liked the electric responsiveness I had an opportunity to drive an i x 40 I was absolutely blown away . I am used to high performance cars driving a x 4 m 40 i having had a z 3 m roadster an a e90 m3 . even though on paper the i x 40 should be significantly slower it was so impressive and felt as fast as you would ever need . the ride comfort was as good as a 5 series or x 7 with air suspension handling was confeident and never felt wallowy and steering was direct and the car never felt overly big to drive. seat comfort noise levels were exceptional. the i drive 8 is so seamless beautiful screen and easy to use . the iconic sound added to the experience and was ok . what blew me away was how wonderful the overall experience was in every aspect and that this was the <base > model .from a cost viewpoint while more costly than a i 4 m 50 the difference is not great . the problem being that I can’t do a direct comparison until my ordered car arrive s. I would value comments from those that have driven both . on a side note I have told that I x 50 and I 4 m 50 if not already orderEd are now looking at 2023 delivery in Australia . mine is uncertain but April to June this year hopefully |

I found the ride on the 440 firm, not harsh .
Compared to my x 4 m 40 it was a to my feel a bit firmer . As my driving involves motorway, and occasional coarse surfaces ride comfort is important Found the i x even without air suspension a whole different level .hopeful the I 4 with air suspension in rear will also be at least at that level. The frustration is ordering a car but not being able to drive one |

Yes, the iX would be a step above the i4 for ride isolation for sure. Without driving the i4 or iX, it would be hard to say if the qualities of the i4 would suffice for your case.
Do you know if the m440i GC you drove had the Adaptive suspension? |

Our spec in Australia generally is every option is ticked
So adaptive i standard The reviews to date of I 4 m 50 with its rear air suspension have praised the ride . My drive of the i x 40 without air suspension impressed me so much I was looking for comments from someone who had driven both The suspense is building |

The only thing I would say is that I’ve yet to see an SUV that can handle like a sedan. My e-Tron rides great and is super quiet, but it still doesn’t handle like a sedan. So yes, the ride of the iX might be plusher, but I’d bet there will be a handling trade off. There almost always is. For some it might be worth it, for others not so much. Personally I’m done with SUVs, I’m looking for a car. |
