(Not that VW/Porsche is much better tbh).

Still praying for that Macan EV to be more than a rumor!

For this recall ? Parts are absolutely available, I took my car in for this optional post delivery fix and the replacement motor came in in less than a week. Replacement takes 1 day or so.

For whoever is curious; this is what the front motor looks like. (Attached)

I got my car back, the tech said the replacement of the electric drive unit went smooth, no issues. Parts delivery from Germany to US-CA took about 5 days. I was able to keep the car while parts were shipped.

I dropped the car off Wednesday and I picked it up Friday, two days later. It was ready Thursday but dealer waited on BMW authorization release.

So far so good. Software was updated to 03/2023.50. I haven’t noticed any changes from 11/2022.63.

A couple of notes:
1) New software version is not reflected in the MyBMW app and no release notes in the car.
2) I was told by the dealer that the cost for the recall would’ve been approximately $13,000 if it was done outside warranty.

I think that number is highly suspect.
First it can't be more difficult than dropping an ICE.

Second, I can't imagine the part costs more than a long block.

Your paperwork should have the part number.

I'd like to see what it cost.

I thought a whole motor replacement was a bit low for $13,000 (parts and labor).

There are several SKU’s there but the drive unit is 12-33-5-A76-E49. This SKU was updated recently.

Looks like $7000, just for the part + $2000 in air shipping, so $9000 for the part.

I looked it up on Get BMW Parts.
The unit is $3700 after you turn on the core.
Core charge is $3400.
So like I said, inflated numbers.
Even after the extra parts, I can't imagine 30 hours to pull that electric motor.

I'll believe $7000-$8000 out of warranty, maybe.

The car I ordered was delivered to my dealer yesterday. This means that the car was sitting at the port since November of 2022. Some lucky buyer scooped it up less than one hour after I canceled the order.

So I agree with the above posts. The parts are available. The repairs are being conducted.
