2018 red, tera BEV lease

Had mine for a week and loving it so far.

Picked it up in Dallas and drove back to Houston stopping 3 times for level 2 charges. Tried a Level 3 at a Cracker Barrel over lunch last week and it worked great.

Effective lease price (in addition to 7.8% dealer discount off $54,145 MSRP, $10.5k incentives and considers $2500 cash from TX and $1000 from BMW car club of america after buying 3 year membership for $135) is $330/month with zero down, 36 months/10k miles per year.
Got $17.5k trade-in allowance on my 2012 BMW 328i wagon which reduces taxes.

Waiting for a Clipper Creek 24A 240V charger to arrive, then installing a NEMA 14-30 receptacle with 20' of 8-3 wire from breaker box myself. Electrician quoted $1250 which is just insane.

Loving it so far. Makes the commute much more fun and relaxing than previous daily driver (never really liked the 6-sp auto trans).
Really looking forward to putting close to 30k miles on her over the next 3 years.

Awesome. Welcome to the club!

Nice looking ride and I agree that price quote from the electrician is a bit excessive, but what does your home set up look like?

Long runs, new fuse box installs, inside garage/outside will all influence the labor cost.

I ended up installing my Clipper Creek in garage for $400. Had a separate box already in garage. That cost does not include the charger which was another $550 before power company rebate.

thx -

There are two breaker boxes already in the garage, one main for the house (no space for a 240V breaker) and a sub panel for the garage with plenty room. The NEMA 14-30 receptacle will be about 20' away from the box, running the wire above the open ceiling joists. Easy job and less than $100 in materials.
If it took an experienced electrician more than an hour to do he'd have to have messed something up.
Will probably take me 1.5 hrs, working slowly and extra carefully.

Yeah I paid $515 for the charger, which is a lot considering what it is (no delay function, no wifi, etc). Would have bought the 30A Siemens Versicharger but it's only a 20' cord (sometimes will charge i3 in the driveway) and has an older style NEMA 6-50 plug which requires a heavier 50A line of course. The 24A Clipper Creek will be fast enough plus a 30A line is a little easier to install.
Then will get 30% back on the charger and line hardware on taxes.

Did you buy or lease yours?
Was a really tough decision for me, only because I could have gotten an additional $10k off purchase through my company's fleet program. On the other hand BMW's very high 58% residual (~$31k, when it will likely only be worth ~$20k in 3 years) plus all the other incentives make leasing equally attractive.
cheers
Kurt

I leased. Have no desire to own an EV; at least not yet. In 3 years, hope to evaluate the i4 or Taycan and will decide then whether or not I'd like to own which. More than likely, will lease again. No maintenance and get the pleasure of keeping up with technology by leasing.

Even finally got my wife to try a lease on an X5 order we just placed.
