Charging stations unlock plug automatically after charge complete
Do all charge stations automatically unlock your plug from your vehicle after it's done charging? I thought its locked until you unlock your vehicle?

If I terminate charge on my home charging unit and the car is locked it stays locked in until I unlock the car (haven't tried it at fully charged). If it did release someone could run off with your cable !
If the car is unlocked and charging you need to press unlock it to stop charging and release the plug unless its fully charged and you can unplug it. |

I guess my question was more for Public charging stations. When the vehicle is done charging I thought you can't unplug the vehicle if it is locked. I was trying to initiate a charge remotely but someone unplugged my vehicle and I couldn't initiate the charge.
I was thinking maybe if this was something you could code or would require software update of some sort. To not allow vehicle to be unplugged without it being unlocked. |

I can confirm that my i3 "Unlocks" the charger plug once it reaches full charge (I only charge at public stations btw).

I could’ve sworn this was an option (either through user menu or at very least via coding)

I think this setting actually depends on the region. I know in some regions the charge cable is not physically connected to the car or to the charger (UK?). There I think the i3 keeps the charge cable locked until the car is unlocked. In the USA the charge cable is physically attached to the EVSE. In order to make it easier to share public chargers the i3 unlocks the charge cable when it reaches 100%. I don't think this is a setting you can change in the menu system.

I personally assume that most cars don't have this option, so I don't go pulling on the chargers of others once their charging is complete. Additionally, generally I've never been able to find an empty next door space that would allow me to park and to "charge in the future." JP
