Charger switching on intermittently
My 2015 i8 (normally plugged in) appears to have started asking for charge every so often despite indicating fully charged, ramping up my electricity usage.
I’m wondering if the 12V battery is on the way out and the car is repeatedly trying to charge it. (I guess these typically only last 5 or 6 years normally and they usually go t1ts up when the ambient is around freezing anyway) Any similar experiences out there? |

Mine does the same thing.
I also leave the car normally plugged in. Lately I just unplug it for a day and then plug it back in. It then takes a charge for maybe 1/2 hour and shuts off. After that it stops cycling except for maybe once every other day to keep the battery fully charged. I’m also thinking it’s the 12 volt battery dying. 2015 on original battery. |

I wonder if I set up the 'off peak' charging time option (only available with a departure time set for some strange reason) if it will limit ALL charging including 12V, to within that time period or whether it ignores that for the low voltage stuff. I can hear the wall charger isolator clicking on and off during the night.
This problem, I guess, is more apparent with my cars lack of use during UK lockdown. |

That could possibly work.
I’ve never used the off peak charging option. Here in Oregon we don’t have any off peak rates and our electric costs are one of the cheapest in the whole country. Half the cost of California. |
