Not likely. An M3 is easily $70K and the i8 will be significantly more advanced, more features, more performance, plus it's "new" and a flagship vehicle. I expect it to hit $150K.

Keep in mind this price is before $7,500 tax credits, so in reality the starting price is more like $34,000. I'm interested to see how much more the other trim levels are over the entry level. Also can't get a great sense for legroom in pics because of varying front seat positions in the pictures. Not having a B pillar may be a nice feature for people with infants/toddlers.

Interior is really cool looking, but definitely not feeling the exterior.

The interior doesn't look as big as a 3 series.

And it costs the same as a gorgeous looking 428i coupe...

It's a nice EV, but it's not something BMW should build.

I can't predict how it will perform saleswise, but I'm inclined to think that this i venture of BMW is going to fail.
It's going to perform as good as the leaf from Nissan. I feel that people are ready for electric hybrids not full on EVs. I for one would love to own a daily hybrid but the thought of only electric and no back up gas engine to give me range (meaning long distance not to just charge the battery) erks me.

I like the car. These pics surprised me because up until now I really wasn't feeling it.

People this is just the first electric car BMW has came up with. I mean I'm no fan of electric cars and I don't think it's something BMW should focus on but it is new technology and cross your fingers for the i8.

I bet they will lose $$ on every single one of them. It would be interesting to find out what is the breakeven point (how many they will need to sell to recover invested funds)? I just don't see the business case at all. Being an engineer, this looks more like an experiment than a final product. It does not have any break-thru features or capabilities yet it cost an arm and a leg and actually it appears that it will be inconvenient to operate due to range limit.

For now, if I needed a small commuter vehicle that is fun to drive, give me GTI TD any day over this at 1/2 the cost. It will take another 10 years or so for Tesla, BMW etc to develop electric vehicles that make sense. The battery technology is killing it right now.

It's already confirmed that it will be more than 100k euros, so it also easily be over $100k USD.

odd they didn't go with a glass roof - likely safety related but would have looked great with a glass roof like the Evoque

Weight savings.

I didnt like it at first, but saw some of the specs and its pretty impressive.

Interior space, speed, no transmission tunnel, etc. that would be funny drag racing this thing against other gasoline powered cars from a street light, keeping pretty close and having the other driving staring at you thinking wth just happened?! Haha

This is the beginning of the end...

BMW has started selling electric cars.
Not sure how many years petrol cars will be around, but this is the beginning of the end...
