Conversely, in the school drop-off line this morning, in what's supposed to be a single file line, you've got people driving around cars once their kid is out, and that carries the real possibility of hitting a child. THAT'S dangerous.

Do you only drive the speed limit? That doesn't make any sense

No need to get upset.

And I do feel like I'm above the law at times.

The reason is simple; speed limits are made for the average person driving the average car paying the average amount of attention under average circumstances with average skill.

I find that there are times when even an average person can speed safely, and certainly those in above average cars, with above average skill in an above average circumstance can speed even more.

I respect the law when it makes sense.

So, you go ahead and wait at that stoplight at 2 am when you can clearly see that no one is coming. Me, I'm running it.

^ Don't disagree but we have drifted away from the OP's question. OP's situation was a very different situation than a stoplight at 2am with no one coming...

You are correct, I was only remarking that I think there are times when breaking the law can be done prudently.

As far as someone coming up on me at 90, I'd just move over and let them pass (if they tail-gated me). Usually I'm pretty aware though, and would have moved over way before he got to me.

I believe newer models have blinkers, but that blinker fluid runs out quick and we all know BMW owners can't be bothered with such peasantries as filling fluids... or opening the hood.

Just because I'm not above the law doesn't mean I have to agree with all laws. I don't recall being consulted when the speed limits were set. Plenty of stupid asinine laws in the books. Typically the more important and less asinine a law is the greater the punishment for breaking it. Going 95 in a 65 is what? Couple hundred bucks and a call to the ticket clinic? Are you breaking the law doing 95 in a 65 at 3am with no one on the road? Yes. However you are also breaking the law when you jay-walk or share your Netflix password or use the wifi from the Mcdonalds across the street.

theres also the notion that you aren't going anywhere faster when the traffic is medium thick

no point in weaving in/out of lanes when the traffic is thick, like how much more ahead are you going to get

i move over. if i feel like the car is going to be at my bumper before i can pass the upcoming cars in the right lane i'll still move over, slow down, let them pass and then get back to the left.

the guy in the left lane coming up behind me shouldn't have to hit his brakes or wait.

Speaking of sealed systems that aren't, I have to hit, er, I mean visit the auto parts store later this afternoon and buy an economy size bottle of brake fluid for the Mighty Dodge.....

If you would quit romping on her and giggling like a drunk infant the entire time, you could just get a standard 55 gallon drum.

I don't get the not using the blinker thing. I don't even have to think about it. It's hard wired between my brain and my left hand.

Because you don't use all the other "technology enhancements" in the vehicle, you still have time for blinkers.

What's funny is the people commentating are the same ones who tailgate and expect you not to leave distance...the irony is pretty rich. Literally, these are the people I was talking about that merge all the way left when they enter the on ramp. Worst drivers

It's probably cheaper to buy a 55 gallon drum of DOT 3 brake fluid than it is to buy the equivalent quantity of diesel fuel these days. When I drove past the local fuel station two hours ago, diesel was $6.59/gallon! (I put in cheap DOT 3 fluid because I just need to drive it a few miles to the repair shop, and it will mostly leak out on the way.)

Left hand? Are you saying that the turn signal stalk is on the LEFT?

Most people around these parts also do not know that NY State law says that you must signal all turns at least 100 feet in advance. Still in the learner's permit handbook, and I remember this from back in the olden days before I had a license.....

I rarely signal if I'm blowing by you switching lanes. If I'm cutting it close I'll use it. Turns always

Same. People that are making a left in the intersection when you're making a right and come up right behind you or you have to brake to let them in.
