I8 insurance costs
Hey guys
A quick question. What kind of insurance cost is being paid. For reference, I pay $515 per 6 months on my M4. Thx

I pay about that for my M4 and $200 more every 6 months on the i8. I also have a 19 year old in the household, though she is driving a GMC Canyon pickup most of the time.

In the UK just arranged mine £600 for a year $850 has to be fitted with a tracking device
This is cheap BMW Insurance wanted £1400 All others prices from £1500 up insisted on a Tracking device with a fob no fob and the car still drives but tracking enabled police can remotely disable the car. If I added a 19 year old to mine it would likely be uninsurable or over £500 a month |

I had multiple quotes and they were all over the place. Some were insanely high. I ended up putting it one of my companys so I doubt my rate is a good barometer.

About £350 for 15k miles, 5k business, car on driveway, with Aviva Multicar. Needed a tracker, which fortunately the car already had so an extra £133 a year for that (bought 3 years upfront).
The comparison sites were crap. And if I said no tracker, cheapest was about £900. |

I know Jas got a similar deal to me with BMW Insurance and on a newer car I think. They weren't competitive for me as my mileage was too high. |

I didn't need a tracker but most other quotes were off the chart. As a comparison, my 4.6is X5 (obviously worth a lot less but similar BHP), costs about £350 and my previous 635d was around the same. It's all down to postcode, age, history etc... any blemish and you're over a grand in a heartbeat for an i8... My 17 year old son wants to drive it now he's had a couple of driving lessons - I nearly died laughing at him.

Rang quiet a few others and can't get insurance as price of car too expensive ARGH if I can't get below £1000 don't think I'll be getting one as each year it will just go up and up

There are a fair few at about 62k and I've been watching them come down as I've been following UK prices closely. So there's bound to be a deal to be done below 60k. And that seems to be a value trigger point for some insurers - so having a car worth 59.5k with a tracker could be the difference. Try some comparison sites and see what happens. IMO you're better off buying one that's been used regularly with 20k miles on than one that's been sat mollycoddled and only brought out on a sunny day. Any teething issues may not have been found yet. |
