Not sure where the fuse panel is on the iX since I don’t have it yet, but has anyone done a direct wire for their radar detector? Luckily the BlendMount that I have on my M550 will fit on this vehicle, but not sure what fuse block to use for the fuse tap. I can’t use the MirrorTap option because I am also using the Escort ZW5 laser shifter andi it’s direct wire cable has an extra module in it to communicate with the radar detector wirelessly.

On a realted subject, does the iX have a metallized windshield that blocks RF signals such as radar and transponders (eg., EZPass)?

IN my experience, the black lines near the rear view mirror indicates a clear zone where signals penetrate.

Ez pass will only work on the top dotted areas. Contrary to the instructions which made it seems otherwise.

So does that mean I’m going to have problems with my radar detector mounted underneath the rearview mirror? If so, that’s really going to suck.

I don’t use one. But, I know my ez pass works in that dotted area.

Well, at least my laser jammer will work since those sensors will be on the outside.

I have the TX Tag on the non dotted area (right of the mirror) and it is working correctly (successfully detected by multiple toll agencies). The front wind shield has IR rejection, but I don't think it has metallic elements (someone can confirm though).

My radar detector works just fine stuck to the lower left part of the windshield.

Did you hardwire it to the fuse panel? If so, do you remember what fuse block you used? Thanks.

My NTTA toll tag works just fine within the dotted area also just to the passenger side of the camera assembly (in case anyone wants to know if that experiment has been run).

Yes. My Model S was the same way, so I installed an Escort Max CI360 where the detector is mounted in the front grill area and the controller is in the driver compartment.

I noticed one response saying it does work in the cabin. If it does, it's with significantly reduced sensitivity.

I have the MAXcam 360c paired with the Esort ZW5 (front and rear sensors). I went with that in my M550 because I wanted to be able to use the radar detector in rental cars. I’m familiar with the one you have, man are they expensive!

Yes, they are!

Understand your conundrum about the rental cars. I have a Valentine One that's about 15 years old in my other vehicle, but since some car mfrs started using K-band sensors for their adaptive cruise control, I find it virtually useless. In my Escort, I programmed it to ignore K-band as it's not used in my area.

I’ve been using Escort products since their very first detector with a screw in a lightbulb (they were called Cincinnati Microwave back then). The ZW5 laser shifters cost $900 plus an additional $600 for the rear sensors. I think I’ll just stick with what I have so I don’t have to start all over. Plus my MAXcam filtering is supposed to be slightly better just because of the newer technology. I guess we’ll find out soon enough on my new vehicle.

I bookmarked this page for fitting a dashcam - https://www.********.com/threads/pow...-detector.942/ - the install shown is for a radar on an i4.

Thanks For sharing that. I actually read that earlier today. The problem is I can’t use a MirrorTap even though I have one lying around. I’m using the direct wire cable that came with my Escort ZW5 that communicates to the detector wirelessly. It doesn’t power the laser shifter receiver directly, but I still have to use that proprietary cable. I have to go to the fuse box, but luckily it looks to be easily accessible underneath the dash near the center console.
