DIY: Disassemble BMW iDrive Controller for Cleaning (Version 2)
This is an updated guide for disassembling the BMW iDrive Controller for cleaning (Part No. 65829490069) The part has changed internally over the years and the tear down is slightly different on newer versions. This version is a bit trickier and seemingly more fragile than the older controllers. Be careful not to break the plastic clips. This version has silver dividers between the Media, Menu, and Map buttons and comes with the later generation iDrive systems. This is from a 2019 BMW i3S but this exact controller has been used in everything from the 1 to the X6 since late 2018.
Old Guide V1 (Part No. 65829350723): https://bmwi.bimmerpost.com/forums/s....php?t=1266881 Why: Its easy to spill liquid around the buttons and they started to get sticky and gross. The buttons themselves work but their motion wasn’t what it used to be. Since the cup holder is right in front of this switch on the i3, many people report having this problem. Part: 65829490069. Checking RealOEM this is exactly the same part for many BMW's. Time: About 1 hour Tools:
