$20k market adjustment

Guys

My dealer tells me "BMW" is adding a $20k market adjustment to any I8 they sell, regardless if it is in stock OR if I order a 2016... I was somewhat surprised to be told that even if I order a new one to my own spec they would add $20k to the bill.

I've never in my life paid over MSRP for a car, I've even got a 488 GTB on order at MSRP... Is my dealer been straight with me?

No idea. This is the first time I'm hearing this - for any car. Either BMW has a horrendous order backlog, or your dealer is trying to make an extra buck.

I actually got a 16% discount AFTER I had bought the car. The Swiss Frank shot up against the Euro and all the car importers were scared to death that their business would break away. I had picked up my i8 just a few days before the Central Bank made all hell break lose. I wrote to BMW and got my discount.

All that said, it really sounds a little phoney.

BMW sets an MSRP and then has to stand back and let its franchised retailers sell the cars at whatever the dealers want to sell them at. The dealer is bullshitting you. Many dealers are now selling the cars at below MSRP.

Thanks MalibuBimmer, I kind of guessed that - I'm disappointed as I have known this dealer for some time, bought 3 cars from them (M3, M4 and a 228i), so I expect better

Yeah, they're bullshitting you. I'm surprised they still think this stuff flies with the Internet. I guess they are hoping you don't know how to use a computer to see that people have been paying MSRP since day one and some recent sales have gone for a couple grand off.
