BMW i4 eDrive40 tested by Bjorn, 416 mile range!

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com

That's approximately 5.15 miles/kWh (since he has a euro-spec capped at 80.7kwh battery). That's insane!!

With the USA 81.5kWh of usable size, that would be approx 420miles of range.

Impressive considering the wider wheels and heavier weight of the i4 vs it's direct competitors. That even beats a Lucid Air in efficiency as is in miles/kWh.

SHEEEEET!!!

the race of tortoises with maximum deprivation and self flagellation!

unfortunately i can't drive like that on my roads - poorly designed, built, slippy, nasty, windy as snakes. i need to accelerate and decelerate all the time and also need AWD

impressive nonetheless. i can't stand Teslas!

So BMWAG sandbags the range and efficiency specs. Nicely done.

Not only that, but BMW lists 0-60 at 5.7 seconds, but Bjorn was able to to 0-100kph in 5.1 seconds, 4.9 seconds with a roll-out, or basically 4.7- 4.9-ish 0-60.

More than enough for a 'basic' commuter.

Wow that is very cool, I am still looking for i4 40 test drive, but it surely looks like a much better product than Model 3.

I'm in the same boat. Looking to have the wife test drive one, local dealer said they haven't seen one in months.

They have had them at the UDEs. I had to convince them to let me take the 40 that was in more of a presentation area than the M50s they had available for the street drives, but this was a smaller event. For you, it looks like they're not hitting CA until the fall, though.

I wish I had ordered e40 I feel like M50's power is way too much. But then e40 now doesn't have PAP.

I am not surprised as with BMWs HP they underestimate it a lot, i keep getting pleasantly surprised how efficient the m50 is during "normal" driving. So the e40 will be amazing on the range side. I can imagine what BMW will be able to pull off on a bespoke EV platform built for that purpose from the beginning, I am very intrigued to see how the car will perform the coming winter in snow/slush and cold temperatures.

The 4 Series/i4 was designed from the beginning to be ICE/Hybrid/BEV But, I get what you mean....a model that is BEV only, like iX.

It's ((Wh/km)^-1)/1.6*1000 or ((Wh/km)^-1)*620 for rough estimation.

You can drive it in Eco Pro mode for less power… or I'd be happy to take it off your hands if you want to get an e40 instead :-)

I prefer range over power as well, that’s why I’ve ordered e40 - we do ~800km one way road-trip few times a year. But that’s why DAPP is critical for me as well, so thinking about ordering M50 and see which one will arrive sooner and if DAPP will make back to e40 for 2024 model.

The most ridiculous part - they are both about the same price similarly spec’ed in Canada, as M-pack is included on m50 and premium package is cheaper ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

There's no way you'll get better range from an eDrive40 no DAPP vs an M50 19" with DAPP on a road trip, unless there's no traffic and you use regular cruise control.

If there's traffic and you use DAPP, efficiency will easily go up 10-15% from what you can do as the driver.

Your mileage may vary, but after using DAPP on my current car for over 15,000 miles I'm getting 26mpg while using DAPP vs me driving about 19-20mpg.
