The stars aligned - Bought a fully loaded 2022 i4 eDrive40 today
So I was one of the folks who had an M50 (June) and i40 (November) reservation. The production number for the e40 hit first, and then the M50 a month later. At that point I decided I really just wanted the better balanced e40, since it would be produced first, and did everything I wanted in the car.
I then entered the 2022 i4 merry go round. I had DAPP as part of my options. Scheduled for production, order received, scheduled for production, order received. Now you're a 2023. No DAPP, PAP etc. Production scheduled finally. In the midst of this, I told my salesman if there were any cancelations, let me know. Cue Monday 8/8 noon. Someone canceled their 2022 e40, instead going with an ICE BMW. I was next in line at the dealership (Dallas Metroplex). The color is not what I wanted, Mineral White/Black Leather vs Portimao/Cognac Sensatec. And while I wanted DAPP, M Sport and a few other things, this went over and above that. Where's the car? It's coming off the truck today. When can I pick it up? Tuesday PM or Wednesday anytime. How much? MSRP/1.9% - same as the ordered car. Pinch me. I literally agreed to the car in less than 2 minutes. Tuesday PM. So, here I am with a Mineral White e40 with everything on it except Drive Recorder, Spoiler, and Sport Brakes. Heck, the salesman even had the car tinted (free) when I got there. I was able to apply my $1000 BMW voucher from a class action settlement. No games, add ons etc. Arrived at 3.30. Out at 5pm including a full tutorial on the car. The demo I drove a few months ago creaked a little somewhere, and mine is tight as a drum. The heft of the steering wheel and controls are pure BMW. Meanwhile, I'm still taking a peak at the 2023 Portimao as it moves along the line (Paint shop). It's going to be someone else's baby - I hope they like my spec. The end or beginning of a journey? It's definitely been arduous. But the road is straightening out. Last edited by mbchris; 08-09-2022 at 10:51 PM.. |

Damn, I wish my CA would call me with something like this. I have a m50 on pre-order, still really do want the extra power but with the tax stuff in the air I would do it now / trade in / sell to make it a wash with the first tax credit.

You may want to consider looking at Northeast dealerships with available e40s. Here in the northeast we highly prefer AWD vehicles when the models are offered as such, and therefore will likely be easier to find IMHO due to the winter/snow driving in these parts. I checked shipping from San Diego to central NJ when I was considering an iX from BMW San Diego and was quoted $1600 for open carrier transport about 60 days ago. Assuming the pricing is fairly stable with declining Diesel prices .. you should expect the same. This would save you a ton of coin over $10k ADM with Cali dealers! |

I checked a few BMW Dealers in San Diego area and couldn't get a straight answer and total cost - price of vehicle + all fees/adders. Too frustrating; I don't understand why they don't view transparency as great customer service.
