iX M60 Owners - Side Fender M Emblems and Measurement

I don't understand why the USA spec M60 are optioned with "3DZ Without Additional Designation Outside" (M logo is removed from the side fenders) from the factory. While the rest of the world get the M logos. Why?!?!

If anyone interested in adding the M logos, here are the measurements that I have. Although it's not the official measurement, but I found it is very close to the real deal. Just make sure to have a level tool or a laser level handy.

The part number is 51145A3F9B3 and ECSTuning do have them in stock and are shipped from the US for around $51 each.

I ordered mine from the parts department last week. The parts are coming from Germany and should be here in two or three weeks. I attached some stock photos from the BMW Germany site for location reference which appear to line up with the bottom of the door handles.

BMW Part. No.: 51-14-5-A3F-9B3 (don’t forget to order two!)

Originally I tried ordering from this place, but they cancelled my order saying they did not have them in stock anywhere in the country. I don’t know why they were so quick to cancel the order when my dealership said they could get them in three weeks:

Preparing for the side M emblem install. The first two photos are from the BMW configurator tool in the UK. The real world photos are ones I found on some auto show website somewhere. The bottom of the front and rear door handles do not align perfectly all the way through. There is a slight change of angle. I just confirmed this by putting blue tape on my vehicle. While probably not visible to the human eye, what is visibly different is how far away the emblem is from the A pillar indicated by the red lines. I’ll post vehicles of my vehicle during the install process. #OCDProblems

Definitely not looking forward to doing that again! The adhesive is so strong that you only get one shot to do it right!

Heat gun or hair dryer and dental floss, but you're right - better to measure twice, paste once...

Great advice! It’s close, but the angle is slightly off. Plus, I was trying to center it between the door handles, not align to the bottom of them.

Was also wondering why this was the case! Even my salesperson doesn't know the answer. Our Aus delivered ones all come with the M badges on the side as well.

Nice job - finishes the trim. Odd that the badges are missing from your cars - ours (Canadian) are delivered with them - would be interesting to hear the reason

ChuckChoi: Thanks a ton for those pictures. Super helpful!
I ordered and received our M fender badges from BMWpartspro in less than a week between ordering and mailbox. Now have to wait for a bit of warmer weather (-3F last night) and less salt on the fenders for install. Am planning to use a laser level to align the badge with the handles and use the measurements from ChuckChoi's pictures to get the 10cm distance right from the door.

Think I could convince my service center to put them on for me next time I go in for a software update?

I would do it yourself. No one’s going to care as much as you do. They don’t have any machine or anything like that.

Following ChuckChoi's measurements and instructions, placed the badges today. Laser helped to keep the bottom straight and perfectly aligned with the front door handle. Used the vertical post-it to denote the 10cm distance from the edge of the panel.

I found that the door handles in the back don’t align perfectly with the ones in the front - at least not all the way through. I studied the stock photos backwards and forwards and the emblem goes between the door handle not at the bottom. I’m sure yours looks better, but I’m still very happy with my results.

Good idea with the lasers. I wish I would have thought of that and now I may have to redo mine. 😂😂😂

Installed today and looks great - thanks for all the alignment tips gang (did the same thing on my US X5 M Sport - which also came with the badges removed in the US)! Pics later....

They truly look better with the emblems. It makes no sense to me why they are left off the US vehicles.
