one simple thing to check, i had a creaking noise that I would have bet was the roof. It turned out to be the parcel shelf. I removed both sides of it and the noise stopped. I haven't bothered to figure out which side and if i could easily correct.

There is also a service bulletin about the parcel shelf groan. It mentions replacing the forward shelf (eg the one behind the seats) with revised part number. My dealer has ordered a replacement since the shelf in my car is Rev4.

I have also experienced groaning and creaking noises in the luggage compartment area. A while back, I removed the parcel shelf, and one of the noises disappeared. However, I still have other noises, which seem to be present at low speeds upon acceleration or deceleration and appear to be centered in the right rear of the vehicle.

I don't use the parcel shelf and still have the noise when braking or coming to a stop, under certain temperature. It looks like to be from the plastic housing at the top of the seatbelt, right in front of the parcel shelf.

We have not experienced pano roof creaking in our IX 40 despite being in -19’ Celsius (-40 with windchill). We live in Canada . . .

My shelf has a build date of 26.02.2022, same version though. I guess I should request a replacement too. I hear a creak every now and then.

Thanks hugo,
I took out the shelf and no more cold morning rattle, finally.
I'll ask the dealer to order the replacement.

Your contributions on this forum are very much appreciated.

Mark.

I just started experiencing the same thing. I’m going to remove the parcel shelf and see if it stops.

Audio File - creaks and clacking when cold

Thank you for posting this thread. Glad to learn I am not alone in experiencing this.
I took an audio recording - attached in the zip file - of the creaks and clacks when our iX (built in Nov 2022) is cold. Noises start at about freezing and become more pronounced when temps are below 25F. It takes a warm cabin and about 20min of driving for them to disappear. Noises are pretty loud and annoying. It's not the cover in the back, but hard to tell whether it's the glass roof or the plastic touching the rear side windows or something else.

THIS is 100% the noise both our iX 50s had and now both our 60s. Thank you for posting this. All FOUR of our iX, the noise was not the parcel shelf. We are not sure if it is actually the glass roof, or plastic pieces in the car. When temps are above 70F, the car is silent inside. On our 'CA cold' mornings with 32-50F, we get this noise. It usually lasts 10-20 mins!

When you say “parcel shelves,” are you referring to the removable cover in the cargo area? I’m only asking because you said it plural like there was more than one.

There are two parts to the parcel shelf. The one attached to the tailgate and the one fixed behind the seats.

Mine is rev5 (7/9/2022) but I still experience the creaking noise on cold days for the first 10 minutes of drive. I'll try removing the shelf and see if the creaking disappears.

Mine is part number 05 also and I am getting the creaking. I took them out and it stopped. I spoke to the service tech at the service center. He is going to check as the 05 was supposed to solve the issue and he doesn't want to order a part and still have the same issue. He could not find a newer bulletin. I'll let you know what he says.

I think it's fair to say that we as a collective know more about the IX than most dealers

Just like I know more about AT&T connected car than AT&T does. There is definitely an API issue between the My BMW app during the AT&T eSIM registration process. Definitely an issue in the US.

Follow up: The Service tech ask me to bring it in so that they could record the sound and send it to BMW for a solution. So I reinstalled the panels this morning.....and there was no sound on my ride to work. I do have the updated panels so now I am wondering if they were not fully attached. Now I am just going to watch it and if it comes back I will try to record it and bring it in.
