Ditto. My conspiracy theory opinion is that BMW did it to show off the crystal controls. Stupid location.

The beef I have with them is that they cause you to lean forward a little in an unnatural position to adjust the seat. So, it takes iterations to get things right. When they are on the side of the seat bottom, you simply drop your arm to a natural position to adjust, and you are not altering your seating position during the adjustment.

This new interior option looks worse imo. But even the regular interior is a bit weird.

BMW cost cutting continues on apace. The new 5 interior is unconscionably cheap and now the ethos is spreading now to the iX which was bare bones as it wall. BMW is taking out premium materials wherever they can. Sad.

I’m not sure what you mean about the iX. The new interior design package (which is optional on the base) doesn’t change materials per se but only changes the trim color and steering wheel shape.

I’d hardly call the interior of the iX, “bare bones”.

Perhaps my standards are much lower than yours.

I agree. Far above bare bones. I haven’t had anyone in the car that wasn’t very impressed.

Just my two cents. I don't mind big slab of screen as long as it feels integrated and designed a bit easier on the eyes. We really don't need a dash-wide screen either.

And who thought it was a good idea to get rid of shifter and preset shortcuts...

I haven't spent significant time in the G60 5-series but I don't think it's a cheap interior. WRT to the interior, the G60 is a step up from the G30 but a step down from the G16 or G70 just as it should be. Both the G60 and G70 have the benefit of sharing costs with an ICE counterpart but that also means there have been tradeoffs in making them EVs.

The iX certainly has been the victim of cost cutting and you only need to look at the seats and compare it to the other vehicles in the top end of BMW's lineup to see the difference. However, there are reasons for BMW to take that approach with the iX. EV's cost more to make but those costs are coming down and BMW has done a good job, for the most part, on keeping the car feeling like a premium vehicle.

That has to be the most sterile and weak interior I have ever seen.

The only difference is the steering wheel shape and the different trim color. Not that big a difference.

How is the red stripe sporty again? I see it everywhere now in the bmw lineup. I feel it cheapens the look. This steering wheel looks parts bin like the accountants said there were a few extra x7 steering wheels they could wrap.

You don’t have to have the red striped steering wheel on the base model. It’s only standard on the M60.

The stripe at the top of the wheel cover has been used by track and rally drivers ever since the first driver or pit crew wrapped a strip of tape to the top of the wheel to provide a visual reference to "up" when changing wheels quickly or "straight" when driving. It carried over to the M Sport division wheel covers with BMW for as long as I can remember, partly for the same reason (quick visual reference to orientation), but partly to emphasize "This is a really fast and maneuverable car, and you should be driving it that way, so we put this on the wheel to help you out and to show everyone else that you're driving a car that is meant for the track."
