I went to the first day of the first BMW UDE event this year at the MetLife stadium in NJ. BMW EVs are definite getting more attention. They had i5, i7, and iX on display. iX M60 and i7 (I think) were available for street test drives. Also, instead of the usual X Experience course they now have an iX Innovation one where you get to punch the accelerator on iX M60 all the way, test out its rear wheel steering, record a path, etc. For the autocross event they had the new 5 series - i5s (rear wheel drive model) and 540s (xDrive model). One got to drive both. ICE 540 couldn’t compare to the i5 EV! XM Label, the new X1 and X2, the refreshed 3 series were on display as well - unlocked and available to look at inside and out (yes, XM Label was also unlocked!). Unfortunately, no XM available for street test drives. Overall, it was pretty cool considering it’s free. Check out the schedule of UDE events in the city close to you:

I was there yesterday around 2:00 and they had no EVs for a road tour - they were all recharging.

Also, does anyone know if the 1K (or should I say $500) coupon can be applied to the IX?

Road tour? You mean street test drive?

Usually it mentions in the fine print, so if not specifically mentioned, then it should be good to use.

Can you please share the date it expires?
Thanks

Did you get the $1,000 coupon code already? I haven't yet. Here is the fine print from last year's one where all i cars were excluded and the code expired in 3 months. However, I got the code from someone who attended a UDE event in San Francisco in October of 2023 and its fine did NOT exclude any i cars! I am not sure whether the i car exclusion was region dependent or BMW changed their policy towards the end of 2023. We'll see what happens when we get our codes which should happen in the next few days.

"*$1,000 offer valid on eligible new model year 2022, 2023 and 2024 vehicles in dealer stock delivered and retailed through 6/30/2023. This offer cannot be used for previously ordered or previously delivered vehicles and is only valid on delivery of in-stock vehicles. BMW iX, i4, XM & i7 models, a well as MINI vehicles and BMW Pre-Owned/Certified Pre-Owned vehicles do not qualify. Offer valid to customers and their family members residing within the same household, attending 2023 BMW Ultimate Driving Experience – New Jersey North at MetLife Stadium and registering on https://udenewjerseynorth.eventsbmw.com by 3/26/2023. Offer valid on final negotiated price and may be combined with other applicable BMW offers that are available at the time of purchase. Only one OL number per vehicle may be used. Offer valid towards purchase price of eligible vehicle. Only valid at participating dealers.

I haven't received the code for this year yet but last year it was set to expire in 3 months. I didn't attend UDE in 2021 and 2022 but when I attended in 2020 (my first time) the $1,000 code was set to expire in 6 months.

Please share the details once you get the code for this year.

I was planning on attending Philly in June, and my RS etron GT lease is up in Oct, so might be cutting it close

Do attend regardless as it's fun and free.

I saw in the email that they changed the name of street drives to street tours where you go on a tour and switch between three cars. Has anyone done this ? When it was street drives, you just select a car and drive for 15 minutes on a planned route alone.

I haven’t done a street tour/drive this year but it looked like the same old street test drive when I checked. I could be wrong though.

Just did the street tours. They said they no longer give individual cars to test drive due to too many accidents last year. They have a lead car and then three cars follow and at some points during the drive drivers switch cars. They divided it into three groups to choose from. ICE Sedans/sports cars, iCe suv , and EVs

Thanks for the info. Yes, I remember the autocross instructor last year mentioning that people crashed a couple of cars on street drives. Even though I didn’t do the street tours, I did notice that all the cars there had BMW reps sitting inside. So, did you have a rep sitting next to you while you test drove the car in a group?

There is a lead car with the rep and walkie talkies in each of the three cars following. No reps in the cars with you. So he just announces the turns and stops so everyone following is aware. Problem with this approach is they take your around mostly the stadium parking lot which is smooth and only a small stretch of actual streets.

Thanks for the explanation. That's not a test drive! I am glad I didn't waste time on this.

I was there Sunday and it was absolutely a blast. For the autocross, the i5 EV was much more fun blasting around the track vs the ICE.

I did the Street Tours and choose the SUVs as there was no wait. X7, X5 M60i and X2 M35. Fun enough on a beautiful Sunday considering the rain on Saturday.

NJ530 and Kief, I just received my OL code email. All new BMW models are eligible but the code is only valid for two months! Also, even though, it sounds like the code is only valid on in stock vehicles, I know that in reality it can be used for custom orders. Here is the fine print:

I registered for the event in Monmouth April 5-7. I’m also supposed to be picking up my iX this week or next. Is the code emailed a few days after the event? Is anyone not using their code or willing to swap codes if possible?
