The current real-world range is more than enough to get through most driving before needing to take a pit stop at a charging station. But, still curious to see what improvements they have as I understand that not everyone can charge from home or have a decent infrastruture in their area.

As for the looks, even small improvements can make a difference and it’s sound like they are collaborating with ONE, the makers of the Gemini battery. The iconic glow is such a cool feature in BMWs and I can understand why you love it. I’m just as excited as you can see how it will be incorporated into the iX and let’s hope BMW delivers with an impressive power increase maybe even reaching 590HP or more. It’s gonna be awesome 👏

The real solution will be a compromise, which is smaller battery/lower weight to yield probably 375-425 claimed miles. 800V charging is good futureproofing but from my extensive EA charging experience all over the West Coast and into the mountain regions, it won’t make a huge difference. By the way, I had a i4 M50 as a loaner and WOW that was fun. Can’t wait for that i4M or even i5M if quad motor is where they’re going with this! |

Looks like my post has allowed BMW Blog to start talking about what they know (it's almost like an embargo but imposed by unofficial sources), so if you want to learn about the batteries, head over there.

For me it is. I just need (want) 200 in the dead of winter (well below freezing).

That is highly inadequate for me….since I only typically use 80% of capacity before charging (160 miles)… that makes it nearly impossible to drive two hours without a 30 minute stop…makes long trips miserable. Hey…but your use case is far different than mine.

I really don’t understand people’s obsession with range. I have an EV and in 15k miles, I’ve literally charged it once outside of my own garage. I get that everyone has different use cases but how often are people traveling long distance to need 300+ miles on a regular basis?

That’ll do it. It takes some quality freebird driving to pull iX range down to the low 200s.

That’s how fast people drive around here on interstate. I am not an outlier. In cold weather it drops to the low 200s…better in warm weather. I leased the IX because it’s actually pretty good compared to a number of others. If I could get 300 miles of real range in cold weather at high speed I would be a very happy camper!

There are far more important metrics than horsepower. What good is 600 HP when Tesla doesn't make a sport suspension to handle such horsepower? There is no difference between the suspensions of its P vs non-P models with the exception of some superficial lowering. That's it. They handle like garbage. Fishtailing a Tesla to the fastest 0-60 from a stoplight is not my idea of enjoyment. This reminds me of the days long ago when Firebird and Trans Am owners thought they were driving sports cars. Feel the same, and I’m cautiously optimistic that the LCI M50 i4 is more than just cosmetic changes in order to be more competitive. It’s on my short list to replace my RS etron GT in Oct when my lease is up. I’m very interested to see how the upgraded Model 3P turns out, which is about drop any day now…
