Shark Fin Removal on I4?
Good morning folks, Hope this is the right place to post this. I own Lethal Design Solutions and we are in the business of wrapping cars. I'm currently collaborating with another shop that's working on a full matte PPF on an I4 for a customer. I've been called in to wrap the roof. Curious to see if anyone has attempted to remove the shark fin on one of these yet. I know we can wrap around it if necessary but looking for the cleanest install possible and the less knife work we have to do anywhere near this car the happier I'll be. Any insight on how to remove the fin?
Thanks in advance! |

The housing is glued to the roof itself. You need a knife at an angle of 45° all round to cut through it. BMW use a special tool to get through the adhesive without damaging the roof itself.
To get the antenna itself off is major surgery from inside, removing parcel shelf, C & D-pillar trims and various other parts to get the headlining down. Unlock and slide the TCB module forward and then undo the antenna itself by undoing the screws and sliding the unit forward to release its locks. |

Special tool for cuttin antenna covers. Especially on the newest style shark fin. Much less area to work with to get under the shark fin plastic.
