Crunching/Cracking Front Suspension Noises
My i4 M50 has about 5000 miles on it. For the last 1500 miles or so, the front end makes creaking/clunking type noises when going over simple gutter dips, speed bumps, etc. Doesn't always do it, but 80% of the time. Kind of irritating since the car is otherwise very quiet. Hard to believe that I'm the only one with a car afflicted with this. On the other hand, I think a technician would have a hard time trying to pinpoint the source while the car is on a hoist.

Hmmm I wonder if the dealer forgot to remove the shipping blocks on the front springs. This happens from time to time in the last 20 years or so and pop up every now and then.

I'm pretty sure it is all covered with under panels that would have to be removed to inspect the suspension. I can hear the noise going over a bump, but subsequently when deliberately trying to go over more bumps to hear the noise, it doesn't always happen. Wonder if it is some kind of rubber bushing that makes noise on first extension, and then later on kind of becomes more pliable. But the car also sounds like it actually scrapes the bottom lip pretty easily over little intersection dips. Nothing serious, but you hear it. I'm just not sure if it is actually scraping, or just an extension of that other suspension noise. The car is otherwise rattle-free and quiet, so this suspension noise sticks out like a sore thumb.

So you haven't looked.
I don't have my i4 yet but in every car I've ever owned you can at least see the spring/damper etc by looking in the wheel well. As stated above you should at least make sure visually the shipping blocks aren't still on the springs. I am not sure how you expect to get anywhere using theory alone and asking internet friends. If I suspected some issue with my car I'd be making it my priority to solve it, if only for safety. Since no one else has confirmed these noises maybe take it to the dealer under warranty?

Two days later the battery was replaced along with a new rear axle assembly. They will just debug it and charge BMW for warranty work. Don't sweat it.

You should contact your SA and let them know you've been in another i4 that doesn't make this sound. Or better yet if they have an i4 on the lot have them prove their statement on that i4.

Looks like there is a service bulletin for suspension noise: https://g42.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1999946 |

Is it the same issue, or a different one?
The fix posted there is NOT the same as in the video here, it's new Tie Rod ends. I linked to this thread over there.

The tie rod explanation makes sense. I am going to see if I can figure out what kind of steering rack is in mine. In the last week, 90% of the noise seems to have gone away. Perhaps its all the moisture from the recent storms.
