My understanding is it's mostly roll resistance between the 19" and 20", the 19s are 245 Front and 255 Rear but the 20s are 255 Front and 285 Rear, that is a considerably width difference especially the rear so greater roll resistance plus probably more wind drag too.

Also, in a few press releases, the M50 has a .cd of drag between .25 - .32, you can about imagine which one has the higher .cd of drag.

Yep, the one with the wider wheels and rear arch extensions.

I think BMW was saying i4 M50 range to be in the 260-270 mile range, right?

I took delivery of my 2022 M50 on Saturday 4/16/22, and when 100% charged, the range said 222 miles. Hopefully it goes up!

It will go up don't worry, people had fun test driving it 🙂.

The one I test drove had 41% charge and 89 miles on range, that would mean 217 miles on 100%. Very consistent to people flooring it on city streets and getting a feel for it.

Thanks. It must have been techs, since when I test drove it, it was still partially wrapped in plastic and the dealer said I was the first customer to test drive it. It arrived late on Fri 4/15 and I took it home on Sat 4/16. I believe the odometer was 11 when I drove off the lot.

Today the weather was 14 degree and at 100% charge it was showing 236 miles, so far today I have covered 18 miles back and forth from home to work and it's now showing 92% and 239 miles.

That is amazing!!

Thank you! Yesterday when I left for work (round trip 40 miles), my range showed 180 miles when I left, and when I got home my estimated guess-0-meter range showed higher, even though I used many % of the battery.

The i4 seems to be quite efficient, although I am coming from an Audi e-tron (inefficient electricity pig) and a plug in BMW 530e that would drain the battery driving around the corner, LOL!

Already going up! I charged for the first time today. At 80% charge, my range was 235 miles.

Seems impossible, but my 100% charge showed it would have 295 miles :-O So not real, but nice/fun to see

You can see 350+ miles easily if you drive in ideal BEV situations, and you upset all the people behind you 😊

Around here we see those practicing these "ideal Bev methods" on the middle of winter going 50mph on the highway with all the windows frozen up, the north face coat, fur hat and full gloves so they can have a higher range and save the environment.. I mean at these temperatures BMW doesn't even allow there own PHEV vehicles ICE engines to stay dormant...

At this moment i am getting 207 miles at 78% charge, i charge it to max 80% when just driving around town. Comfort mode no hyper miling just "Normal" driving.

But i am certain it will improve overtime it did it in the i3 it will here to. I have only driven it 674 km totally 418 miles so improvements are coming for sure.

And this is the kwh from my latest drive in comfort mode and no hypermiling

So now i did my first proper long trip and the car with my 19" delivers well on its promise if driven "normally" i will have a low consumption and also it will go at least 480 km one way with about 13-15c temp outside mixed with rain and such.

So my first part of the trip was 133 km constantly highway driving the consumption landed on 20.5 kw/h at 120-125 km/h mixed weather and temperatures. Also driving in adaptive mode with the lovely adaptive cruise control. (The 133 km is referring to the part when it goes from highway driving to mixed driving)

Second part of the trip was 67,6 km to the only rest place i take on the that specific trip was at a ionity charger when arriving to this one i took a 10-15 min break. When arriving at that charging point at 48% it was showing me at least 250 km left on the charge and this is about half way to my goal. But anyway i needed a break there so i charged the car from 48% to 69% didn't need more than that. No cost at this point sens i have that one year charging for free on ionity that came with the car.

So at this point the consumption was dropping from 20,5 to 19,7 when arriving at the charger. Speeds around from 80 km/h to 110 km/h because of B-roads conditions and in Sweden we have those 2-1 roads called where you can't really pass anyone until it opens up.

The third part of the trip was the last part it was at 146 km from the ionity charger to my goal. Also here it was mixed driving mostly B-Road driving with the last part being a bit highway driving. Speeds on this part of the trip was from 50 km/h to 125 km/h so very mixed. So when arriving at my end destination i had 36% left.

So a total of 361,6 km on the way down and this was due to a small detour i went of to check a small thing out.

So for the home way the same road trip with another small detour road i went down to. Yielded a bit different results.

Part 1 from goal point to ionity charger a bit higher speeds this time and a lot of rain and lower temperatures i arrived at the charger i had 67% and charged to 82%. Speeds was from 50 km/h to 135 km/h at specific parts.

Part 2 from the ionity charger to just before the highway part starts again on the way home, i went from 82% to 68%. At this point the car was showing 18.1 kwh/100 km so very low. Here it was again mostly 80-100 km/h

Part 3 highway driving until arriving at home. i went from 68% to 36% when arriving home, Witch was 125 km/h to 135 km/h with pretty much constant rain so. 18,5 kwh/100 km was end result when arriving at home an avrage consumption. But the highway part was a bit more due to the rain so from 20.5 kwh/100 km to 21,5 kwh/100 km

The first image below is the to trip and the 2nd the back trip.

Thanks for sharing! For the US folks, 18.5kWh/100km = 29.76kWh/100miles.

I was guessing about 30, very glad it's true. Funny what you consider a long trip though, average Tuesday for me in California.

haha yeah in Sweden this is "long" so to speak not for all though but i know about Cali driving was there a couple of years ago back in 2014 i think it was, i went to the US with my Girlfriend now Wife and her family to go on a road trip through some parts of the US we started in SF and ended up in Las Vegas as an end point then from Vegas to New York, But YEAH driving in the US is very different from Sweden. I Remember we went from Redondo Beach where we were staying to Hollywood to do all tourist stuff that tourists does and it took so LOOONG i don't know if we were driving in Rush Hour or not but you got so much traffic! But also when driving through Death Valley THOSE very looooooooong straight stretches of road :-)

So far for the first 450 miles, my average has been between 3.6 and 3.7 miles/KWH. Using 20" Style 860 wheels.

I've had my M50 with 20" wheels for about 2 weeks now and after charging 100%, it is showing 200 miles range on full charge. But I am driving in sport mode and have not been timid at stop lights, stop signs, or jumping onto freeways. Honeymoon period still in play.

Something interesting that happens, as I drive and the charge % goes down, the range remains the same or even higher as I drive. I'm sure there is some sort of algorithm that calculates range by my driving habits.

I would presume the range after charging is a worse case scenario. I'll do some tests by driving in eco mode and implementing some hypermiling techniques to see if I can get the range up.
