I try not to keep mirrors around, because I just get jealous of myself, then the whole ego stroking thing takes place, nothing gets done, it's a vicious circle!

Well, I'm pissed. It appears this ex employee is going around poaching all my clients. Set up shop, I suspect from his house, so he doesn't have the rent costs, and is severely undercutting me it sounds like. He knows all our prices so he knows exactly what to quote.

This is now the 6th client...and this client was just in two weeks ago to see me, happy as punch that I had saved him all this money because I found an issue with his books where he was underclaiming. Then calls me to today to tell me he's going over there and though I asked what I could do to retain him, he danced around and ultimately said I couldn't do anything.

And I can't prove crap right now, but I'm still going to talk to a lawyer and see if I can bury this guy.

If he didn't sign a non-compete clause when he worked for you, is there anything you can really do though?

Not much - unless I can prove slander or that he is using firm resources.

Wasn't my employee - I bought out the previous owner and he left before I took over. Ultimately it reduces what I owe the previous owner, but still, it is extremely frustrating.

Hopefully you had a NDA, but in the event not, there isn't much you can do... I'd be curious as to what he's telling your former clients however...

Had that before - disgruntled ex employee left and started poaching all the best staff members in the district... Knew what everyone was making so snagged some with more money and better hours...

I bet the person you bought out had a non compete with him and that may have transferred over to you depending on how your deal was structured. If he did and it does, you very well may have a leg to stand on. One that could net you the cost of his client purchase figures within that agreement and put him out of business or at least get him away from your clients.
