Thumbs down 2016 i8 comfort access/key ISSUE

I'm having constant issue with locking my car using comfort access ( touch down), opening my - 100% all the time with my key in my bag. Sometimes I have to "touch" this spacial spot like 5-7 times to lock my car.

Also a lot of times when I'm inside my car and car key at my bag behind my seat on a floor - car start complaining that the key is not in a car, pulling key from my bag does solve this issue , I had multiple bmw cars and never had this type of an issue with car key not responding within less than 2 feet away from a dashboard.

Anyone had similar issueS with their i8 ?

Thx Mike

I have no issues with comfort access or starting the car. Key is in my pocket, so close to car when I lock / unlock and close to dash inside.

I have and have always had the same issue with locking my MY15 i8 via comfort access.

Comfort access (sounds like a European pay toilet doesn't it?) has always been problematic on various BMW models. I've had 6 Bimmers with "keyless entry" and it's always been "touch and go" (forgive the pun) to lock the damn things. It must be my bloodless fingers.

I had many different bmw models and never had this problem, for me it looks like battery issue in a key fob or may be just internal key antenna not powerful enough

I dont have time to troubleshoot it with BMW now, but next time I'm in for service - will request to change key batteries

thats one of the reasons I didnt order G-wagon ( no comfort access as an option) and having this issue with this car is very painful and unpleasant

I'm sure you are doing it right, but just in case since it took me a bit to figure it out - I found to make the locking work I had to tap down directly on the square and hold there for a second.

I have the same issue when the fob is inside my bag, and sometimes when it's in my pants pocket. I need to pull the fob out for it to work. I'll have them replace the battery and see if that helps.

I had this issue with our Mini (kind of a "zero series" BMW) and it was the battery. The display would say that the key needed to be recharged only the remote's battery isn't rechargeable - just a lithium coin battery. Easy enough to replace and it has been working perfectly ever since... The CA was very hit or miss and sometime it would start with out the key and sometimes not.

That's what the manual says, and it works like a charm - for me at least.
