I got an answer from them. Apparently, mine is as intended, and yours has an extra bonus handle

"Unfortunately, what actually happened is that our manufacturers (on the first set of i8 luggage) added a handle that should not have been there – it is not and has never been on the drawings submitted to them. Apparently, it was not noticed by the lady who sewed the cases. ...... – where we add a sports handle, we never add a carry handle"

I did see the original drawings, and the handle is indeed not shown on the large case.

So, I guess mine is correct...and yours is better

NO! Truth be told -they only offered the bonus handle due to Louv's sewing prowess. They realized they were dealing with a professional with impeccable taste and who is also a BMW i8 upholstery artisan to boot!

I suspect that is the true story behind the mystery handle

Pretty cool, but their website seems to be down?

From this site:
http://www.vertar.com/hills-alive/

"Hills Alive make a high quality range of custom, made to fit, sets of car luggage. We are one of only 2 outlets for the products now (March 2018), as the company has ceased trading directly with the public. Manufactured from tough nylon in the UK and with more designs coming in leather they are made to fit each model listed and are not generic bags - their motto is 'if it fits in the bag it fits in the car'. So you can have smart, practical luggage which reduces the need for endless soft bags, carrier bags and items stuffed in corners which looks a mess when you want to wear them. Check out the prices and cars listed, if you require a different car please contact us as we have access to many more patterns not listed here."

bmw sells this now:

https://shop.bmw.co.uk/bmw-uk/en_GB/...tion./2454880/

not sure if it goes in the boot or behind the seats though. The description is a bit ambiguous.

Behind the seats, cubby hole where the rear seats used to be.

Pretty sure that if they fit behind the seats in the roadster, they’d fit on the rear seats in the coupe. You’d just have to live with the ‘roadster’ writing on it.

I don’t like the look of the hills alive cases much. The vuitton set was nice but you can’t buy it any more and the price was beyond silly.

Shame bmw did not look into it more seriously.

Yes, but the ONLY cases that genuinely fit the i8 are the Hills Alive ones.

None of the others do. You may as well buy any soft bags if getting those.

These bags fit nicely in the back seats of the Coupe. They can stand up and be seatbelt'ed in place.

According to the dimensions, they'll probably fit nicely in the Roadster's cubby holes. I'll report on fitment after my Roadster Roadtrip next week.

And they fit airplane carry-on dimensions. (the Hills Alive bags do not)

Technical Specifications

Item No. B-170 Jet-Setter Duffel Pack

Dimensions: 20H x 15W x 8D
Capacity: 40 Liters
Construction: 15 oz canvas, nylon lined interior, YKK zippers, leather padded cotton web shoulder straps, adjustable cotton web shoulder strap, metal D rings, 3 large interior zippered pockets on flap, interior slash pocket on back

Blimey $380 for one single piece of Nylon backpack is punchy.

So of you may laugh but the bag that works the best so far is Ikea's £1 dark blue zipped bag that can fold into a pocket. Been using one for a couple of years. Super soft (won't scratch a thing), you can squeeze it anywhere.

It does not have a great deal of style though.

Available for Sale?

Two pieces. Mine was done in black, with blue trim. The blue is close, but not quite a perfect match to BMW's blue trim.

The top piece works fairly well for three pairs of blue shoes.
Bumping this up.

This custom luggage set (in original post) is available for sale/barter/gift/trade/whatever. I no longer have the car, so the luggage set isn't really needed anymore.

Anyone interested?

It's located in Portland, Maine, USA. But could be shipped—or driven—elsewhere.

They haven't been in business (to end customers) in a few years.
