To anyone who got this kind of cool looking i8 USB keychain...

Have you actually got this thing to work?
It's only worked on one out of about 10 computers I've tried it on.
Keep getting an error saying the port doesn't have enough power for this device!

Not sure if USB devices need some power from the socket.
It seems to work on some desktops, but haven't seen it work on any laptop.

Maybe that's why they were giving these away

Yes. USB ports supply 5V to their devices (minimally 5v @ 500ma). Even a memory based device (Thumb Drive) needs some power so it can function. Some USB ports provide more power than others (for device charging etc)...

Some USB devices can also provide their own power (i.e. printers) if their requirements exceed what a normal USB port might provide.

Thumb drives obviously need minimal power from the USB port so their circuitry can process read/write requests...
