This is the creepiest photo I've ever seen in my life, what is wrong with people?

There has been a "momo" meme going around that appears in some kids YouTube videos. It's the creepiest photo I've ever seen and it apparently tells kids to kill themselves and do odd things like turn the oven on in the middle of the night otherwise it will haunt/kill them and their family. Anyone see this?

Hmmm...seems a tad creepy for sure.

Having not seen a video with this...not sure what the lure is. If it's like a tide pod challenge, then I'm all for survival of the fittest. If preying on little kids that don't know better...then that's a different story.

Theres been reports of kids videos going fine until 5 minutes in and cutting to that creepy picture. It's also a "challenge" on WhatsApp and I think that's where it started.

There is a story behind that pic and I don’t think it was meant to have the affect it is having.

I guess it’s like if I jump off a cliff will you lol

Yeah, it's the latter.
FTA:

There's 'bait' in videos and games that asks youngsters to contact momo via snapchat or whatsapp (or whatever).

Once messaged, police say, Momo may respond with disturbing images and instructions, including directions for self-harm. Momo may also make threats about what could happen if the directions are not followed, saying they will harm the child’s family or place a curse on them.

“While the threat of a curse may sound silly to an adult, it could be a very frightening prospect for a young child and they may feel under pressure to carry out acts to protect themselves or family from further harm,” Det.-Sgt. Elaine McCormill said in a statement.

The actual picture is of a sculpture made by a Japanese special effects company that was shown in some art exhibition called "The Gallery of the Netherland III" . "Ghost Gallery III" is an art exhibition held in Ginza "Gen Gallery (vanilla gallery)" from August 15 to August 27, 2016.

But it's made out to be some mystical creature that will hunt you down and hurt your family if you don't do what you're told.

Edit: but the creepiest image I've seen is this skin condition.

It's evil. Even when you know it's just a lotus flower seed pod photo-shopped onto someone's shoulder, it's still hard to look at.

Maybe I am out of touch with the youth of today but there is no way when I was young that I would believe any of this as truth. I don’t think any of my friends would either. We would probably try to scare each other but to carry out missions for some idiot that tells me to do so...........I don’t think so.

As for the pictures yeah they are creepy but they are just pictures.

Just now I asked my son (12 year old) and knows about it. People behind this need to die like Kayne West.

Why the hell does everything have to be a "challenge"? Whether it's eating tide pods, sucking down a spoonful of cinnamon, doing something blindfolded (stupidly like driving a car), or dumping a bucket of ice water over yourself, it has to be described as a challenge. Like completing one of these things is some sort of actual accomplishment.

The only "challenge" I see are the mental capacities of these morons.

The creature is a harpy hybrid. It doesn't seem to have the traditional wings but this creature has been around for a while.

I seriously think folks who create this content ought to be punished to the full extent of the law. It's all fun and games to say 'survival of the fittest' until it's your kid that is harmed.

My daughter is 4 years old. I will frequently allow her to watch 'YouTube Kids' because I feel that it is a safe space for her and she enjoys the freedom of being about to navigate and choose her own programming content to watch. I keep close watch over her in a general sense, but I can't manage every aspect of her life and nor should I be expected to, otherwise she won't grow into making her own positive decisions.

The fact that this type of stuff has been found embedded in YouTube Kids content, such as Peppa Pig, is quite concerning to me as a parent and it makes me sad that people in society today think this is funny or acceptable in any way.

I hope that the companies that this content is being embedded into are able to create ways to secure their domains and I hope that law enforcement is able to track down the originators.

This stuff starts out small and blows up and there is no way to control it. My daughter is 4 as well and she isn’t into watching videos yet. She loves Halloween and scary stuff so she has a tolerance to weird stuff already. When she asks me about stuff she see or doesn’t understand I tell her that it is not real, it’s just a cartoon and tell her that just isn’t stuff people like her and I are capable of doing with out getting hurt. She usually agree and moves on.

It comes down to the parents to teach there kids from right and wrong at an early age. If they don’t then they will believe almost anything. And having great communication with your children is a must. They have to know they can come to you and ask a question and actually get some good feedback and not be told to go away.

This seems to be a spin on the Blue Whale challenge.

These people got to be punished for pushing this content out.
