automated heating on seats and steering wheel

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I have an x7 and this feature of being able to set automated heating when the outside temperature falls below a certain number is very useful. Idrive 7 version in my x7 and obviously idrive 8 on i4. I’ve looked and looked and can’t seem to find the same feature. Can some direct me there or is this just not a feature available on the i4 or idrive 8 version.

No mention of such a function on the i4 models. BMW limit option functionality by model range so it may be that the i7 will get it but the i4 doesn’t. It could well need additional modules and hardware not installed in a mere 4-series.

i don't think its a module issue. its just a programming item in the idrive that turns on to heat seats and steering wheel when the outside temp hits a low value you select. Maybe you're right in the line of vehicles, but this seems to be an easy feature that's totally programmable or even update-able.

Im my car, when you set the auto mode in the climate control, the car uses the seat and steering wheel heaters dynamically to reach the desired temp. The practical effect is that when it's cold, the seat and steering wheel are warm. I know it's not the granular control that OP is looking for, but the net effect is likely close to the same.

So, you're suggesting that setting climate control to auto will control the A/C - Heater and the steering wheel and seats? I thought the auto feature only worked for the climate.

In our two iX, when it is cold, and you pre-climate using the My BMW app, seat heating and steering wheel heating seem to always be on when entering the car.

Correct, Auto controls everything (22' US eDrive 40). I set it and forget it, and it's great.

Is there a way to adjust the heating on the steering wheel? It's too hot for me usually. Just On and Off?

I'd love if there was a low setting. Otherwise I preheat the car and turn it off after driving off.

I can check our son's i4 tomorrow with the heated steering wheel. In our iXs...when you turn the steering wheel heat on, if you then touch the Climate Menu on the iDrive screen, our steering heat offers settings of: Low, Med, High and Very High. Unless it is super cold....Low and Med will not even come on. So far with our low 30s to 50s F temps, we have to use High or Very High for the steering heat to come on.

I just tried to use the Climate Menu feature after pushing the steering wheel heat button - no luck. I've got a feeling it's just on/off.

It seems like just on and off. Also no coding options for steering wheel temperature. With seats things are different, you can code exact temperatures at each heating level for backrest and seat bottom individually.
