Any Jeepers in here?

always rent these things for our Hawaii trips and most recently rented on for a road trip to Tahoe due to big snow storm last month....worst mistake ever, as I quickly fell in love with the new JL version(2018+)and became fixated on getting into one after that.

Started looking for slightly used models to save a few bucks, but quickly realized you might as well buy new because the slightly used ones(2018-2020) are priced too closely to the new ones to make it worth it...Next thing you know I'm buying a the top of the line Rubicon

After doing my research and finding a dealer in Idaho that does 8% below invoice it was a no brainer

The dealers around here in So Cal can't touch that and usually charge over MSRP
so I will be taking a flight to Idaho in about 6-10 weeks depending on how long it takes to build and driving 854 miles home....cant wait!!!

I'm total noob to the Jeep world and more comfortable on a race track than off road, but excited about doing something completely different ...

hope to have her looking like this soon

Any other Jeeper's on here?

Yep - had one on and off for many years (though never as a daily driver). You're right - used ones hold their value incredibly. I had a 2004 Rubi which I bought in 2008, ran it for 4 years and about 15,000 miles, and still sold it for what I bought it for.

Cant stand them personally but got a couple friends that are into them. I’d much rather have a truck though

Congrats and I hope it brings you endless enjoyment!

I'm a Toyota guy myself; a couple Tacoma's and now a second 4Runner.

I see a lot of SoCal Jeep people mention Redlands Jeep (out near San Bernardino); did you try them? Just curious.

Enjoy and be safe!

I have a restored 78 CJ5 Renegade 5.0. I don't really care for Jeeps but I keep it around for sentimental reasons. I've had it for about 12 years and have put maybe 100 miles on it at most. The newer ones would be more enjoyable to drive I'm sure. Mine has no power anything so it can be a bear. Actually just had an entire new fuel system installed last fall due to never driving it, runs smooth as silk again. Want to drive it more often but just have too many cars to keep it exercised. Had a person offer to buy it a couple weeks ago and I've been seriously considering it, but eh, it's only $18 a month to keep it around and it keeps going up in value. I will say it was more fun before being restored, back then we would do stupid things such as making it go airborne and taking it down dicey trails.

Yep, 2019 Bright White Moab here. We got it as a fun car for when the weather is good and want to go driving with the kids. They do hold there value well, especially the high end models, but with anything you need to hunt and peck to find a good deal. Customizing can be addicting just like with bimmers, so be careful. I recommend joining jlwranglerforums.com, helpful community just like here.

Nice! My nephew has one very similar to yours and I love it....I had a 4runner and a Tacoma years ago and enjoyed the heck out of them.

I also considered the new Bronco, but I can't wait a year.....excited to finally get a Jeep and see what the Jeep life is all about.....

Just Empty Every Pocket is what I hear, but that's why I went with the Rubicon..it won't need too much for a noob like me , probably just some 35's and a two inch lift and call it a day

I really like the Gladiator and will probably get one eventually. I'm impressed with the current gen of the Wrangler and Gladiator - they seem like quality, unique vehicles. In a world where all cars are starting to feel the same, they are unique and have character. I don't think Jeep has anything to worry about with the Bronco. Jeeps are so expensive, though, ($67K for a loaded Gladiator), but they do hold their value unlike anything else.

I really like the Gladiator too and debated on which one to get....

The place I am getting my JLUR from has quite a few 2020 Gladiator Rubicon and Mojave's for like $10K off sticker right now....

Check out Peterson Jeep in Nampa Id or if you want to build your own 2021 shoot me a pm I'll send you the info on the guy to talk to and get like 8% off invoice which is like 12% off MSRP

Hah. Love it. Renting Jeeps in Hawaii is what hooked me, too.

I'm not actively looking right now, but I helped my father track down a really clean '99 that he might flip into a newer model here pretty soon. When he does, the '99 will be mine. Looking forward to it.

I had a CJ 7 Renegade in the early-mid 80's. I really liked the thing but it wasn't great for highway driving, I hope they are better now. They do have quite a following, my wife and I both like them and we're also interested in the new Bronco. Our challenge is that it will be our primary driver so not sure it would be the best choice for that.

I had a JKU and really liked it. I have a reservation for a Bronco this time around, but really tempted by the Rubicon 4XE. It is quite the value after discounts and tax credit.

I started building a rock crawler XJ Cherokee but ended up abandoning the project in favor of a mudder F-250. It was a fun truck while I had it but I ended up needing the capabilities of a pickup on top of the fun aspects of the Jeep. Once I move out west, I will absolutely start looking at another XJ if they are still reasonably priced.

Just please don't put angry eyes on your Wrangler, that's cringier than M badges on 330is.

Bought a 2016 JKU Rubicon HardRock brand new in late 2015 as the used market was not worth it. Mid life crisis thing, never had one before, never really wanted one but it's been a nice journey. Living along the coast in the northeast makes this a versatile, all season vehicle.

I'll probably keep it for a long time as they hold their value like no other and once the mod bug bites it just keeps going.

Best of luck, nice color combo

Leased a 2018 JL, great daily driver, would definitely buy one. What’s amazing is my car stickered for $38k and I paid around $34k for it. 2.5 years and 24k miles later it’s still worth about $33k. No idea why people buy used ones at that kind of price. Even Carmax offered me $30k for it

Careful with how you mod it, there's a really good chance of ruining the ride. Death wobble is a real PITA to deal with.

2015 JKU that will be up for sale shortly. It was my dads and totally stock before I bought it from my mom after his passing.

2.5” lift
35” KO2’s on Pintler wheels
Katzkin interior
Alpine head unit with touch screen and apple car play
OEM hard rock hood
Aftermarket bumpers
Upgraded brakes
A long laundry list of other suspension and misc parts
Everything installed by me

It was a fun project and something I may buy again in the future when my kids start working on cars with me. Wranglers are legos for adults. The options are endless.

I was really into them as a kid, even had a red Powerwheels Jeep I was obsessed with. I don't know what happened as I grew older. I can see the appeal but don't lust after them or really any SUV/truck besides the G wagon.

My mom bought this brand new in 98 for 25k. I really didn't care for it then, she passed away 3 years ago and I decided to keep it because she loved it so much. I have fallen in love with it since then. I think my doggie likes it too.

They're fun when you take the roof and doors off and drive it around like a street-legal dune buggy. Personally I can't get over the build quality/unreliability. I wanted one for a while in college when I'd often drive my friend's lifted 6MT JK, was a blast while it lasted but the transmission was shit from day 1 and it eventually just shit the bed at around 25k miles so they got rid of it. Pretty major failure for a 8-9 year old car with 25k.
