Having options to match the upholstery is great and the black 12 o’clock stripe on the iX50 sounds like a nice alternative to the red one. It’s standard on the M60 but optional on the xDrive50 but sometimes pictures don’t do justice to the actual look. It’s a bummer that the new i5 doesn’t offer wood for the center console and the fingerprint are never ending but I’m curious to see what you think!

They should’ve offered the flat bottom M steering wheel. This round wheel seems out of place.

What is there to like here? I really do not understand the allure of a interior with just a steering wheel and a screen. No character at all. I suppose this is where all cars except maybe Rolls Royce or Bentley are headed.

All cars are likely headed this way, including Rolls and Bentley.

What makes an interior alluring to you? Analog gauges? A leather hood over the instrument panel? Switches? Dedicated radio and HVAC hard controls?

From the 2 series and up all BMW displays and shifter console were almost identical, BMW moved away from the individual designed all they have to do is just made one design for all platforms. Cost cutting more profit interior looks boring and dated.

Agree. This is the way most vehicles are going. The trend is toward fewer physical controls and more touch screen controls. Personally I love it. I understand it's not for everyone. You simply won't find a manufacturer advertising "hey, look at how many switches we have in our cars!"

There is actually a fair amount of difference in the consoles and interiors. For example, lower level models don't even have an iDrive controller. Many models have tons of different options for interior trim, wood, carbon fiber, etc. Just look at a 5 series and how many different kinds of interior trim you can choose from.

Im curious when you think they moved away from individual designs. In the 1990s and 2000s, BMW used the same instrument cluster, radio, nav screen, HVAC controls, radio, etc. between the X5, 5 Series, and 7 Series. And I’m pretty sure the 3 Series too; I know it shared some of them. The general designs were all the same because the core parts were the same.

The Spectre interior shares design elements with the iX (the BMW Group owns Rolls), and is already a car-wide single screen dash. More physical buttons, but conceptually it's a screen and a steering wheel. A very expensive screen and steering wheel. But it's distinctly RR, and I've never seen it described as character-less.

I agree the wood is cool and practical, i.e no fingerprints, but they could have designed it differently or at least had similar design elements in the interior to make it more cohesive. A darker greyish wood perhaps to go with the new grey inserts would be the ticket?

High gloss black is the worst idea on buttons, center consoles and key fobs.

I won’t be satisfied if it’s any less complicated than an airplane cockpit with physical failsafe buttons. Just saying

This is now standard on the msport models in the UK. I like the clear and bold version!

It’s called M Interior Accents Dark Silver

This is not what I meant by just a screen and a wheel. I like the look of the Rolls in the picture you inserted. I understand people desire different designs and methods of interaction. I personally do not like the minimalist look in the first picture.

I actually understand and agree - the Danish Modern Ikea look is not to everyone's taste. But muli-function touch-screen buttons is the design model for most manufacturers now, with an occasional nod to the past with physical climate or audio controls, even in ICE models. BMW does a reasonably good job as far as function with redundancy - voice commands, gestures - but their Neue Klasse demonstrates the direction they're heading, along with almost everyone else - a mobile office or living room, function over form, operational details hidden by simplicity. With little of the embelishment, tucked cushioning, silver knobs or leather-envelopment many of us are accustomed to. Maybe Volvo was psychic...

I wish we could get proper metal pedals for the M60.

BMW has official stainless steel pedal covers. They look pretty slick. Lots of aftermarket options as well. Unfortunately, there is no OE-fit dead pedal cover.

I don’t like seat adjustments on the door. It’s like MB to me.

That's a fair criticism as far as personal preference. I actually find I like them better than the previous arrangement in other BMW's I've owned (over a dozen). 1) I can see them, and actually tell what I'm doing rather than feel my way around and guess, 2) It allows a wider and more comfortable (to me) seat, and 3) because you can see them, it allows more functions to be integrated into the seat controls.
