Carbon Fiber Marks Under Clearcoat, Defect?
Took my i8 to a detail shop that my BMW dealer uses and recommends as they deal with high end cars that have carbon fiber parts. The guy at the shop inspected the roof on my car and noted that the light marks on my roof were under the clear coat on the carbon fiber and that the car probably came from the factory like that. Is this a defect or do all i8's have some marks under the Clearcoat that can be seen under direct sunlight very visibly? Does anyone else notice these marks on their carbon fiber roof?

If you're talking about what I think you are they are part of injection molded carbon fiber used in the i8 and were present on my 2014.

I'll post pic soon but it looks as though this is normal as they use the same raw carbon fiber on the frame and just put Clearcoat over it, they're having a specialist come take a look at it at my local BMW dealership in a few weeks. They took pictures of it and will send to corporate for further review based on the inspectors recommendation. Most likely normal though, just bothers me when I look at it under direct sunlight b/c it looks like a bunch of light white marks, especially on the edges of the roof.
