i8 Remote Parking Feature

With the impending addition of the display key to the i8, would anyone care to speculate on if and when the remote parking capability would be available. I've only seen it discussed in the context of the 7 series, but it would seem a natural addition to the i8 given the potential parking challenges associated with the dihedral doors in tight spaces.

I doubt it. I think 7 series only.

Maybe for 2017+ models as it would require adding a lot of more sensors to the car. 2014-2016 do not even have lane departure warning, active cruise control, or blind spot monitoring so the possibility of retrofitting it is pretty much zero. However, I'm not sure BMW is looking to add much more additional equipment to the i8, nothing significant has been added aside from comfort access on 2015+ and laser lights on 2016s, but who knows.

Agree that thety're unlikely to add a ton (literally) of comfort features to the i8. It'll remain light-weight.

For the car to safely pull out of a parking spot by itself, the sensor equipent should be there - ultrasound proximity sensors and cameras. However, the question is if the hardware is in place for the car to actively manipulate the drive equipment, esp. steering.

You're spot on. I didn't even think about the controllers required to steer the car automatically. Seems like a lot of additional hardware to add to a car in which BMW clearly took a very Spartan approach with the comfort oriented equipment for the sake of weight savings.

This is a car where the AM radio (equipped but not accessible without coding) works very poorly. So I suspect weight plus wiring harness issues are involved for most of the missing options we are used to on other Bimmers.

+1 Even the home link garage opener fails in my car at times. It takes about 20 presses sometimes to get the garage to open through the button on the rear view mirror. Not sure if it's related but I thought it might be. My comfort access also only works like 40-50% of the time when closing the car but 90-100% for opening.

Knock on wood - I've never had any of those issues.

I've noticed that the comfort access works better if your other fingers are not touching the body of the car, which you have to consciously avoid if you're locking the car. Let us know if it makes a difference for you.

I have a X5 also, same problem in both cars.. Homelink works better from some positions. The comfort access for me only workes when I use the thumb, it is a design fault somehow. It works 100% in the X5.

My new Tesla also has the homelink, curious to see if it is a bmw thing....

I found it strange because the homelink and comfort access in both my E63 M6 and my F13 M6 worked like a charm 100% of the time. In the i8 it's sort of hit and miss and it's mostly miss.
