DAB reception

Anyone have difficulties with their DAB reception? I know I live in Devon but before buying the 16 plate i8, I had a 17 plate 420 grand coupe and that reception never dropped out. I haven’t moved, I am driving the same route into work but the radio drops out a lot more frequently in the i8.

I suspect that when the DAB station dies, the radio swaps across to the same station in FM... I sometimes hear a repeated phrase in the music because the two stations are out of sync, you can also see on the control screen that you are now on FM rather than DAB. Again this never happened in the 420, both had the updated stereo.

The i8 is still in warranty but when I asked the dealer they just said “that’s what happens when you live in Devon”!

My DAB reception is also poor in the i8 and I live in suburban London!

When DAB signal is lost it just says "No Signal" but doesn't switch to FM. I have to either wait for the signal to resume or change stations manually. Lost signal typically occurs at the bottom of hills.

I am guessing the aerial is in the front screen, does anyone know if you can get a booster for the DAB signal to help?

No DAB in the States then? I wonder what the lines in the screen are for?

From what I recall, the US have Sirius for their digital radio broadcasts. I believe that DAB is a EMEA/APAC standard.

Hello. I suffer exactly the same thing in my X3. Never an issue in any other car and I've had DAB in car since 2006.

Did you ever get this resolved. BMW like to put it down to the signal stregth, but I know is BS.

It’s going in for the 3 year service early August so I have made a point of getting them to check this whilst it is still under warranty. I’ll let you know...

I've got the same issue, I can't really get any other channel tuned on DAB other than the national channels like BBC.

I tried BMW, but I was assured all was fine and well. Even though the curtesy car I had picked up the stations perfectly...

I'll no doubt have to try again, but the dealers aren't great. It takes weeks to get an appointment.
