Second service (4 years) UK
My i8 is due its second service which is time based not mileage as only 7k
Looking online at the 4 year (£998) vs 2 year (£254) only difference are door gas struts (£146) and drive belt seems steep that is ~£600 for the drive belt !! unless I'm missing something ? What is amazing is the low cost of front discs and pads £426 that's £300 less than I was quoted for my 335d 2 Year service £254 Engine oil, microfilter and spark plug service Engine oil is drained and the engine is refilled with BMW approved oil Oil filter is removed and replaced with a genuine BMW oil filter Microfilter(s) is removed and replaced with a genuine BMW microfilter Spark plugs are removed and replaced with genuine BMW approved spark plugs Door hinges are inspected and tightened if required Relevant service light reset Recommended at 18,000 / 54000 / 90,000 miles or 2 / 6 / 10 years from date of manufacture. To alternate with a Hybrid Oil Service II 4 Year service £998 Engine is oil drained and the engine is refilled with BMW approved oil Oil filter is removed and replaced with a Genuine BMW oil filter Microfilter(s) is removed and replaced with a Genuine BMW microfilter Spark plugs are removed and replaced with BMW approved Spark plugs Door Hinges are inspected and tightened if required Drive belt is removed and replaced with a genuine BMW approved drive belt Gas pressure springs of both front doors are removed and replaced with Genuine BMW gas pressure springs Relevant service light reset Recommended at 36,000 / 72,000 / 108,000 miles or 4 / 8 / 12 years from date of manufacture. To alternate with a Hybrid Oil Service I |

They are taking advantage of you if they are telling you to replace the drive belt on your car unless the car was manufactured before March 2015.
https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/i...nce/1VnYVZNNlZ The drive belt on cars manufactured after 3-15 probably only needs to be changed similar to an overhead cam drive belt around 70,000 miles. I’d also change the engine oil more frequently. Turbochargers don’t like dirty oil. 5000 miles max. Last edited by Coastali8; 02-11-2020 at 09:11 PM.. |

Mines due an annual ‘inspection’ which I was largely going to ignore, as it appears to be a just fluid level & tyre check.
I do, however, have concerns it impacts my extended Warranty. Anybody know any different? |

I agree with Coastal i8.
In the US, the extended warranty doesn't cover items like a drive belt. And a worn drive belt shouldn't create problems for covered parts such as the generator/starter or water pump (the only items this belt connects with). I personally would not have the service done unless the belt was showing signs of wear, or cracking. The chart you supplied indicated "Recommended" so I don't see this as a requirement in order to stay in compliance, but I would recommend you contact the warrantor and ask if it is required to replace items that are serviceable in order to maintain warranty. I think they would agree that it is ridiculous as it's not necessary.

My door struts were changed as part of the inclusive service pack. I think that was 2 years old. If it were out of the inclusive package I'd have probably refused it. Seems really wasteful if they are operating adequately.
