Dead i8 no fun
My i8 got a "drivetrain malfunction" error, and wouldn't get out of Park.
BMW roadside assistance has been trying to find someone to tow it: - The first one came with no dolley, gave up & left. - The second one accepted, but chickened out because it's beyond their insurance. - There's now a third one OTW. Maybe it will be a charm. It's now been over 3 hours so far. |

The third guy managed to put it on a dolley, etc. and I finally got back home, 5 hours later.
Dealership was closed by the time I got there, but my CA waited for me and gave me a ride home. I would call that above and beyond. |

Finally got my car back. It was effectively a software update that fixed the problem. The specific error was a "rotor position sensor number invalid" error. Apparently, the old software didn't like that number, but newer software was ok with it.
I tried going into the mood settings to see if it had that improved graphics that someone else posted about. It didn't. But it does display different messages. In particular, I saw a "Accessories are still active message" if I tried to get out of the car when it was still on. Don't think I've seen that before. I still have to see how the electric mode behaves on cold starts. I'll have to wait till tomorrow for that. |

It's possible that you don't see the picture if you have split screen activated. Can't check right now, though. |
