Electric whine
Just took delivery of my '19 Roadster and I'm hearing a very noticible electrical whine that varies according to acceleration. It happens in all drive modes and sounds exactly like the whine you get from an improperly installed car stereo system that isn't grounded.
This is my first hybrid so perhaps it's indicative of the electric motor but I'm wondering if it isn't normal. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks. |

No idea what your're referring to in regards to a "space ship sound". This is a pronounced electrical hum/whine that's even there when the car idles but increases in pitch upon acceleration.

It's normal. E motor whines when accelerating. See my GoPro video, with sound up. Then when at steady speed, you just hear tyre roar plus a bit of wind noise.
(Driving into McLaren's HQ btw.) |

I really appreciate you taking the time to send this video I'm still unsure, however, if my "whine"is normal; it sounds almost like a bad ground... When I accelerate if gets higher in pitch...

It's a pleasant sound though. That recording is with the camera outside the car. |
