Buying Advice for BMW i8
Hey Everyone, I am new to this forum and am pulling the trigger on an i8 here within the next two weeks. I have a couple of questions for this forum and was hoping that it could guide me in the right direction.
1) When buying an i8, what mileage do you want to stay around? 2) Do you look at low miles more or do you look at how many owners it had? 3) Does anyone have any information on a good extended warranty company? I am noticing a lot of the 2015 i8s are almost out of warranty, and BMW financial services are quoting me $7800 for extended warranty. I was hoping there was something cheaper out there and reliable. I'm finding some great deals between 60-70k and thought it would be best to come here and ask some questions. I've pretty much read every post on this forum since 2016 as well. Thank you guys in advance, hopefully, I can join the group soon! |

It all ... really depends ...
Will it be your daily ... or 'fun' car? How long are you intending to keep it? Are you worried about depreciation? Assuming it will be your daily drive. I myself prefer a car from the 1st owner. As a daily car I really do care less about mileage. But if a very low mileage car does not come with a premium, sure I'll take it. If you are gonna put 20 to 50K miles on it, any used car with 10K - 40K miles should do. Do realize though some owners can make a 40K miles car look like a 10K miles car and others like a 100K miles car. Myself I would stay away from the boring colors. Sophisto grey and black - which was available in some countries). Oh ... and make sure the fuel tank (malfunctioning pressure sensor) has been replaced. That's a costly one if not replaced under warranty. This is a great time to get a very special car at a very attractive price (all those lease vehicles flooding the market)! |

Chris_1m,
It will be a daily for me, around 12,000 miles a year will be driven on it and I will be keeping it for a while. There is a great one for 59k with 30k miles 1 car owner. but something tells me I should get with something around 10-20k miles. |

30K is just fine ... I would not worry too much about mileage.
Condition and history are much more important IMHO. Enjoy the search, which is half the fun. |

About the price, really no clue; it has 23k miles and in good condition; it had some issues with AC but they replaced pretty much all AC components and it's fine now...

Love the blue, but i absolutely love the sophistic grey and then add black rims to it. Making it really feel like a batmobile haha.
I have two options. 1) 2015 bmw i8, 30,400 miles, 1 car owner, clean carfax , $59,900, fully loaded/sophistico Grey. Warranty expires January 2020 which then i have to buy extended warranty 2) 2016 bmw i8, 10,200 miles, 1 owner, clean carfax, $68,900, fully loaded/sophistco Grey, has 18 months left on warranty My question would be, is it worth paying an extra $80 a month for the newer/less miles? |

Somewhere around here I read something very comforting ...don't stress about the miles because let's say it's got 30k miles. In all probability it's been driven half on the motored engine, and the other half with the electric.
I don't know why, but that just made sense to me and made me feel better about my purchase.

To be honest, at 30k miles it's likely mostly on ICE not electric. But I'd buy on condition & history anyway, and 30k miles is not high.
It's perfectly possible for a 5k car to have an engine in much worse condition than a 50k engine. |

Hmm, you may be right! Saves me tons of money as well. By any chance do you know of an extended warranty company other than BMW? I can't seem to find one, and would rather use one people on this forum have used. |

I would not own an i8 without a proper extended warranty as there is so much to go wrong. |
