Leather door panels, replacement effort?

Hi all,

Sadly I had a stain (some insect dump that recolored the top layer) on my Roadster driver door leather panel that couldn't be removed anymore, now thinking about having the panel replaced. Did anyone do this before and knows how much effort it is? It's only 5mm in diameter but hurts

Leather repairs

If you go to a leather specialist they will clean and then dye the affected area to match the surrounding area.

It should be a much lower cost and risk.

I speak from experience as I bought a kit in the UK and have repaired a few items of leather. However I would probably take my i8 to a specialist.

Good luck.

Thanks Barry, will decide once I have the quote from BMW for a spot repair or replacement.

Definitely can be fixed by a specialist. I had my i8's white leather marked while being pdi'd by the dealer! I didn't notice the marks til after I picked it up. A local specialist cleaned the grease/oil mark off in minutes and it was back to new.
The dealer paid for it but it was £75 for the clean which included valeting all leather.

Thanks. Sadly this was a stain that dissolved the top color coat of the leather so I think it needs recoloring and maybe even some filling/restructuring. Will consider that if a replacement quote seems unreasonably high. If it's only a couple hundred € and the panel can be replaced without taking the whole door apart or creating collateral damage then that's most likely what I will do and then take the damaged one to a specialist to see how well they can spot repair it.

It will need recoloured and then polished up but will be treatable. I would seriously consider seeing a
smart repair specialist before risking getting parts pulled of the car?
I'm the same, the least little mark but if I know it's there it annoys me.
Good luck with it and hopefully it can be fixed easily

Good point, nothing can go wrong if worst case it doesn't work and needs replacing anyway. Only the time for researching a suitable specialist and going there needs to compare with BMW being less than 10 minutes drive away. I tend to value my hour of private time with a € amount and take that into consideration

BMW will have a smart repair guy at the dealership that they'll use. The guy I used worked for the dealership but also did freelance work too.
Dealers tend to have guys on hand that can fix dings, chips leather etc for used cars that need a bit of tlc before going out on the forecourt.
Give the dealer a shout and ask the question, I think you might be lucky.

Cheers!

The Dealer suggested a mobile spot repair service they also use. The panel replacement is in excess of 3000€ incl. armrest (for color matching) so it's worth a try.

Where in Germany are you? I can hook you up with Lars at Colourlock. They do leather repair and supply to BMW so color match will be perfect.

This is a very simple repair. You can even do it yourself. I would be happy to help you with that.

That is very kind. I am in the Rhein-Main Area. I have got a contact from BMW for a mobile repair service they also use, just didn't find the time...

Thanks
