In the end, it was the head unit after all. They tried it a second time and it worked

Same Camera Issue

Hey BeeBop - Sounds like we have very similar issues. I took possession of the car early in August and the dealer has tried to fix the camera issue countless times (6 different times to dealer and roughly 15 different attempts to remedy). I can't correlate the issue to anything... very random occurrences when parking or leaving a parking spot. I also have the assisted driving fail while driving. Long story short, I am disappointed/frustrated that BMW can't figure out the issue. I do understand that the car is a new model, but my patience is growing thin with constantly taking the car to the dealership. The car is currently at the dealership for another attempt(s). I will forward any useful information that I receive

Update:
Whilst the problem recurred 3 times after 5 days, all 3 times were during one journey.

Whilst I was on holiday, the dealership remote accessed the car (this time with my permission!), and sent the data to BMW technical team.

Since I have been back from holiday, I have used the car 3 days on c10 journeys and there has been no recurrence.

I am thinking this recurrence might just be a random glitch that it seems iDrive 8 or the car software is used to. However, BMW Technical say a new software update is due and they think that the update could help stability.

11/2022.25 Software

Update: Dealership installed 11/2022.25 and have tested the car 100x times with no failures. I've had the car for 24 hours with no issues. I don't want to say the problem is remedied, as time will tell.

Update (11/04): It's been almost a week, and camera system has not "acted up". I hope I'm not jinxing the software update...

Interesting that you have 11/2022 installed. BMW is rolling out updates thick and fast since 7/2022 was just pushed through OTA two weeks ago :-)

Right now, i have some recurrence of the problem. On most journeys, it works. On some journeys, it never works.

Very heartened to hear that the software update has solved your problem. I will post when I have mine done and build the knowledge bank for the forum.

You're probably the first one got 11/2022 installed on the forum. Anything new in the iDrive?
